It's Pretty Knotted is a local Western Australian brand crafting artisanal extreme knitted home decor and wares using only 100 per cent premium 18-micron superfine Australian Merino wool.

Our pieces are 'labours of love' and we are passionate about every item that we create and all products are individually hand-knitted to produce exquisite unique wares.

We place an emphasis on our superior quality wares and only knit with 18 microns (fibre width) which is super fine premium material with a baby soft texture. Other extreme knitters typically use 23-microns wool that is of inferior quality and makes for products that have a coarser texture that is not so dreamy and soft to touch.

As a creative artist, founder Wendy McClelland has always been captivated and inspired by the arrays of colours and textures that exist amongst textiles and have worked with them for most of her life.

She first got a taste for spinning and knitting in the early 80s when one of the craft’s founders in Western Australia - Mrs De La Hunty, shared her skills and passion for working with wool. Wendy was a young and eager apprentice living on the coastal town Albany, and she was a 91-year-old teacher who never let her near blindness and stiff wizened fingers get in the way of her expert use of the spinning wheel.

Many years later, Wendy discovered the beautiful Merino woollen tops that she now works with. She loves the feeling and texture of the product and the beautiful yarn that it produces, plus it is so soft and turns the notion that wool is itchy and uncomfortable completely on its head. Merino fibres are so much finer and softer than other standard wools.

As a next to skin layer, Merino wool is hard to beat. Another feature of Merino wool which is wonderful is that it has a natural oft that traps heat very efficiently between the fibres, making it warmer than a synthetic of the same weight. It is such an amazing product that she feels passionate about and is the foundation of It's Pretty Knotted's products.

I loved my knitting class. Wendy is an amazing teacher. I am new to knitting but Wendy was patient and encouraging. Wendy was great she was very patient! I finished knitting my throw and it was amazing. Loved it I wish I had gone for a bigger one! The materials were a little bit on the pricier however the quality was amazing and she really knew her product. Would recommend doing this if you’re looking for a new hobby. It’s extremely addictive.

She was super friendly and helpful, and ultra patient! Wendy didn't mind showing us things twice (OK, more like 12 times) and was full of encouragement.
Her place is lovely, easy to get to and comfortable.
The wool is an amazing quality, Wendy knows a lot about her equipment and suppliers.

A wonderful class to do with friends and you make a gorgeous giant throw as a keepsake. Wendy was very patient and great at explaining the stitches. She truly is passionate about her craft and where she sources her materials from. You are started with 1kg of 100% merino wool (it is so soft and chemical free), carry bag and custom giant knitting needles. Great for a self care activity for yourself! Highly recommended.

A perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Wendy welcomed us into her lovely apartment and then handed over our materials. The wool was beautiful to work with and the bonus was getting to keep the chunky wood knitting needles. I finished my medium-sized blanket over three days using the tips Wendy showed us, in addition to her instructional pdf and some other YouTube videos. Special credit to Wendy for being a patient, calm teacher and a good conversationalist!

It was super fun just spending an hour at Wendy's place to make the cushion. The wool is SOOO soft and we had difficulty choosing between the 6 colours. She was very friendly and offered us some little treats as well. She stays near a couple of cafes so definitely go check those out after the workshop!

Absolutely loved the knitting workshop with Wendy. Wendy is a great teacher and the environment was so relaxed, I felt comfortable from the minute I walked in. The other ladies were so lovely, and everyone’s throws looked brilliant. You will find it hard to find this quality in the shops, and being handmade by yourself is a massive bonus. I cannot wait to do another workshop with Wendy, hopefully to make a knitted bag (she had some made already and they looked amazing and unique). Wendy also provided a delicious homemade lemon cake and beautiful tea from China, the whole experience was presented so eloquently. Highly recommend.

I am absolutely in love with the throw rug that I made today with Wendy and the other lovely ladies. Wendy was very patient and sat with each of us at times to make sure we were on the right track. One of the ladies finished her baby blanket during the workshop, which allowed us to see how to finish off. I’ve purchased the extra wool and finished my throw rug at home, and am so pleased with it. I’ve dropped a stitch or two but it still looks beautiful, has a comfortable weight to it, and is incredibly warm. The wool is so soft and delicate. Wendy also gave us a lovely bag to carry our wool home, which I will keep the store the rug in during warmer weather. This workshop was an absolute pleasure.

The advertisement used doesn’t reflect what you make in class for the price advertised. I’m not happy with the felting of my wool. If the accurate measurement was posted for the price I would not have booked. It cost me $300.

This is an amazing class where knitting becomes addictive! Just be good if there was more info on how much the wool costs before you book class. The expectation for paying for a workshop to knit a throw rug should be covered in price. Or let you know its only covers 1kg of wool. An extra $225 for wool to finish medium size rug is alot of money. Only got warned of exfra cost via email a day before the course. This should be explained in area before booking

Quality Australian Merino wool supplied. It is expensive but you are making a quality product. The class was relaxed and I have never knitted. I have left the class confident to finish and it be something I am proud of. Thank you Wendy.

Wonderful class!
Wendy was kind, inviting and helpful and the quality of the materials were amazing. The class itself is in a really comfortable, relaxing, calm place with ample parking available. Really delicious home made cake for afternoon tea. My only negative was not knowing the price of the additional material needed to make a bigger blanket than provided in the class. However, what is included is value for money to make a high quality, cosy, cot-sized blanket.

Had a great time at this workshop! A little difficult at the start but very happy with the overall inclusions! Wendy was lovely and very hospitable who also supports you once you’ve left the workshop and throughout your project. Great fun, a little pricey but worth every penny

Wendy was a great teacher! Very patient and helpful throughout the process (and after!)! It was a great afternoon!

The wool provided is amazing and soft however I would have preferred to know the price of the extra wool per kilo prior to booking the class. It would have been good to know that there would be cats in the apartment as my friend is allergic and we weren't prepared.

I'm enjoying finishing my blanket at home!

Wendy was so friendly, welcoming and patient while I struggled through learning to knit! Starting small with a baby blanket for our soon arriving addition and it was a fun activity and something I feel I can continue doing. Highly recommended class :)

What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon! Wendy was a very patient and encouraging teacher. The merino wool quality and feel was divine and I finished my blanket (medium) size at home on the same day. If it's luxury in a blanket that you'd like with some speedy knitting results, this is definitely the workshop to try.

This class was life changing.
It was so exciting to learn “extreme knitting” with the loveliest of teachers Wendy.
Wendy is steeped in the art of giant knitting and sources her own high quality material. She provided us with giant circular needles ( her own design) and the most awesome giant ball of thick thick pure merino wool. You could see and feel it was the highest quality available.
We sat down and were shown how to knit these magical wraps whilst chatting and drinking teas and eating cake.
We loved the experience so much and will be doing it again and again. It was also such value for money. Wendy was so generous with her time and we came away with an heir loom.
Truly fabulous workshop and teacher.
This workshop would be just as fun for beginners as well as experienced knitters.
I doubt one could have this experience anywhere else but with Wendy, who had clearly spent many years developing this art.
‘Too many shades of wool and not enough time to “giant knit” them’
Be warned “it’s addictive”.
