Free flowing joy creating a world of abstraction!

2 hours 15 mins Class size 1 to 4 (public classes), 6 to 20

label $85 (or 4 payments of $21.25 Afterpay)

On the search for relaxing indoor activities? This abstract painting class will provide the opportunity to flow with natural energy and create some abstract works.

Firstly be guided and learn various painting techniques and the use of certain tools to help you on your way - washes, layers, brushes, palette knives, feathering, stippling, stamping...and more!

From here the techniques can be used to create your own abstract painting. Follow along with Yvette's example then paint your final piece!

No previous experience is required. If you are experienced this will be a great addition to your skillset. This is a wonderful class to learn a foundation of tools and techniques which can be incorporated later in your creative path in not only abstract painting but also figurative, still life, and landscape painting. A great foundation to launch from! This is a relaxed and fun class. Simply enjoy the beauty and joy of painting.

Art materials and tools, tea and coffee are included.

Private art bookings at your venue are welcome. If booking a private group booking at your own venue (eg work venue) then group sizes of more than 15 are available if your venue holds more. Send a request through for what you are planning. If booking at a venue of my choice, this will either be at Rozelle or another nearby space depending on availability. This can be confirmed upon your class booking confirmation.

Yvette Swan expresses through bold abstract and figurative paintings a message of freedom, of life. This is completely unknown, free, boundless, empty, full, nothing, and everything. “Nothing”, not as something to be discarded, but rather the empty fullness of aliveness, of freedom. Yvette currently lives in Sydney. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of NSW, College of Fine Arts. She has worked in the film and photographic industries. Since 2000 she became a professional artist and has had over 50 solo and group exhibitions, including the Wynne Landscape Prize at AGNSW, Metro Prize, Fleurieu Peninsula Biennale Prize, and the Art Series Leeuwin Estate Collection. Yvette is included in the book “Unfinished Journeys” by Ken McGregor. Her paintings belong to private and public collections. Yvette has been a professional painter for solo and group exhibitions, art consultancy projects, art expos, and commissioned works for corporate, design, private, and art prizes.
Yvette also creates through writing; and has worked in the awareness and therapy fields with one-to-one sessions.

FAQ
I've never taken an art class before but would really like to explore abstract painting. During your classes is there opportunity to paint on large canvas? or will they mostly be smaller pieces of work or on paper?
Sam

The class caters for people who have not painted at all as well as people who have. I find that most students have not painted before. They enjoy the class and all can paint. I take you through the use of the tools and different techniques and then we have opportunities to create our own art. Everyone has fun and there’s no pressure. I think you will enjoy it a lot.

The half day class always seems to go so quickly so we paint on paper only. The day classes I hold we end up painting on a canvas in the afternoon. But if you would like to paint on a canvas for your last work in the half day class then you are more than welcome to pay an extra $10 on the day and I’ll have a canvas there for you. Or if you wish to bring your own canvas that’s an option too.
