Super class with Yoko who is a clear, patient and generous instructor. As you go through the steps, you get a sense of world slowing down even though time will fly by! The kit is terrific with everything you will need for class project plus lots of post class projects to keep you learning and refining the techniques Yoko shows you. Absolutely loved it.

This was a terrific workshop. Yoko was a very informative and patient teacher. We couldn’t work on our own projects, but could bring them along for advice on how to tackle them later at home. Good to practice on a simple piece first, anyway. Would definitely recommend this workshop to others!

Very well organised and enjoyable class. The teacher (Yoko) was very knowledgeable and provided excellent instruction. Additional materials were provided so we could follow on with other projects after the class, and Yoko provided guidance on how to approach another project I planned to attempt in the future. It was a lovely class to do with friends/family.

I cannot fault this class - perfect from beginning to end. Yoko is meticulously organised and so impressive in her knowledge of Kintsugi. Her instruction was attentive and caring. She had thought about so many details for the workshop and she has inspired me to apply the Kintsugi technique to my own ceramic pieces in need of repair. She was so encouraging and supportive & I highly recommend her workshops to everyone.

Today's class with Yoko exceeded our expectations. The kits arrived well before time and had everything in them that was needed. They were clearly marked so that following along was easy even for complete beginners. Yoko's instructions were precise and she made sure that everyone in the class was clear about what they were doing. She also made sure that everyone was keeping up and had ample time to complete their projects. A very enjoyable way to learn a new craft!

Cathy Harrison Oct 2023

Yoko is a great teacher of Kintsugi; giving practical, detailed information on the process of 'mending ' and 'decorating' the project piece, that she supplied- a ceramic plate. Also, Yoko provided information on the history of Kintsugi; from its beginnings with the Chado-tea ceremony, approx 600 years ago, and the influence of the Maki-e lacquer decoration technique.
The workshop was conducted in her home at Potts Point. Yoko provide all the materials and a pamphlet on where to purchase the materials for independent Kintsugi projects. She even supplied a safe carry box to transport our project home. A most enjoyable and informative workshop. Cathy Harrison

Our teacher, Yoko san was very knowledgeable, patient and a very nice person. She talked about the history of Kintsugi, how it is traditionally done, and how we do it and why, etc. all the materials were provided and the table was set up very neatly with all the materials needed. Yoko was amazing and very patient! The kit that was delivered a week before the class start, was very thoughtfully and beautifully packaged together. It has everything you need for the class and has enough materials to keep you practising in the future.

Yoko was extremely knowledgable, friendly and gave very clear instructions. She also led the class to expand your personal creativity if you wanted to. I'm confident I can do this on my own in the future if I wanted to pursue this further.

I can't wait for my lacquer to cure so I can dust off the excess gold dust to see the results in 5 days.

The Kintsugi class with Yoko Kawada was exceptionally good. Yoko is a great teacher - she pays attention to every detail and makes the class really enjoyable. All the materials were provided, and all the steps clearly outlined. Yoko is patient, well informed and wise; she takes you through the process, step by step. Further, she covered not just the practical details of kintsugi, but its history and philosophy as well, in her cosy artist’s studio. I enjoyed every bit of it, and most of all, I liked the way my kintsugi piece turned out, and my interaction with Yoko. A morning well spent.

Yoko-san, was wonderful!
Very patient and knowledgeable on the topic of Kimtsugi. She explains the why of the tradition and demos each step for you, before you start. This is an excellent teaching method. She explains what may go wrong in the demo and shows you how to express yourself in the correction. This made me feel confident in every portion of the mending of the plate provided in the kit. The kit was well organised and labeled for each step; it also included tea and a candy for you to enjoy between steps. This was a great class. Yoko was knowledgeable and relaxed and guided us through the different steps of the process at an easy pace while making sure we knew what to do, and providing extra tips along the way. My plate is now complete after five days left to set and I couldn't be happier with my first attempt. This workshop lived up to my expectations and I can't wait to do some more with the extra supplies that we received in the kit.

I thoroughly recommend this online class! Having had to cancel our trip to Sydney in July, I was glad that I could do this class online with the kit sent to me. Yoko had an amazing amount of knowledge and sill which she passed on to her students clearly and not too quickly. I sincerely;y think we all had a great time! The difficulty will be having to wait 5 days to see the final product! I would do another course with her and I have already recommended the site to quite a few people. I wanted a private class so I could really understand the technical side of repairs and be confident to take my skills home and apply them to a precious piece of broken ceramic. Yoko was very professional and had set out all the equipment for the both of us in her small studio space. She also provided a drink, biscuits and a sweet which I found thoughtful. Yoko began by clarifying the difference between traditional Kintsugi and Art Kintsugi and then provided a brief history of the ancient original craft which was often used to repair items from a Tea Ceremony. The modern method uses items easily obtained from hardware stores and Yoko can also supply small packs of key items or a full pack of everything you need if you wish to continue the craft at home. The Repair process took 2 hours and required a high level of focus and good eyesight. I wear contact lenses but was grateful for the additional light reading glasses I threw in my bag that morning. Art Kintsugi is detailed and delicate work and I am so glad I have been able to learn this skill, albeit very much a beginner. The 3rd hour was the application of the lacquer and gold dust which also required a fine touch. The final product that you take home then has to cure for 5 days before you brush off the loose gold powder and see the final result. I noted some areas of the repair which had minor faults which showed me how to improve on my next attempt. I thoroughly enjoyed this three hour workshop and the conversation with Yoko as well as have an opportunity to see privately commissioned repairs she was working on in the studio. A beautiful craft from a talented and interesting artisan.

Yoko is friendly, good with kids and the studio is cosy and very easy to get to. My daughter gives this class a 5 star review, because she says, "she is very crafty and likes art".

Yoko was a wonderful teacher. She was happy for me to bring in my own broken ceramic item, so not only did I learn what goes into the art of Kintsugi, but now have my lovely item restored with new life. It was fascinating to watch Yoko's steady hand as she demonstrated the technique, then fun to put my hand to it. In all it was a lovely experience. The location was easy to get to and parking was on the premises. I would highly recommend this class to anyone interested.
Thank you Yoko :)

I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Yoko is a skilled and knowledgeable teacher. She explained and demonstrated the method and checked my work via the webcam. She also explained the history and old and contemporary materials. The class was well-paced and it was very satisfying to see the work take shape. The kit contained all the tools and materials needed, and sufficient supplies for additional projects. I’m already on to my next piece. It was the first time I have taken part in a hands-on workshop that was virtually delivered and it was really good.

Yoko was a kind, informative teacher who took us through every step in good time, and clearly showed how to do them. She made sure she started and finished on time, and was particularly mindful that I had to finish a little early. While we 'did nothing' but hold our pottery pieces together for the glue to dry, she told us the history of kintsugi and talked about traditional methods. All participants came away with a successfully repaired and decorated piece, and Yoko freely answered all questions, leaving nothing out.

Our private class (for 3) with Yoko was fantastic. From the beautifully organised work station, the interesting information about the origins and history of Kintsugi, the easy to follow instructions to the feeling of accomplishment as we walked away with our finished piece- it was a great experience. The process itself is easy to understand and the workshop is a great way to spend an afternoon exploring your creativity. We left feeling optimistic about trying our new skills at home and excited to show off our creation. I would highly recommend a visit- you won’t regret it!

That was just about the most amazing class I've ever taken! Yoko was super friendly and organised. She sent me an email the day before letting me know what to prepare, she was very thorough and clear in her explanations, and she included a bit of extra materials with typed instructions in the kit so I can do it in my own later. In some other classes, I've felt very stressed and rushed to be finished within the timeframe, and a bit on my own when running into issues, but Yoko was really fabulous talking me through what can accidentally happen and how to fix it, and I was surprised we finished on time because I felt I took a lot longer than expected, but she made me feel it was okay to take my time to learn. I really just cannot recommend this class enough, even if you don't want to continue with the art, it's a wonderful mental break from life:) Thanks Yoko, so lovely to have met you!

My daughter and I spent a thoroughly enjoyable few hours under Yoko's expert tutelage learning the art of Kintsugi. We were both so impressed by Yoko’s gentle guidance, depth of knowledge and most of all, attention to detail (right down to the green tea and lolly that came in our respective boxes!). I would never consider myself as ‘arty’ however that was OK and to be honest I found the experience convivial, relaxing, connecting, meditative and of course, informative. This was a beautiful gift as I was able to spend quality zoom time with my daughter (currently in the Melbourne lockdown) from our family home in regional NSW.

10/10 would recommend, particularly to other parents missing spending time with their young adult kids at the moment.

We had a wonderful time learning kintsugi from Yoko san. She is a very good teacher, responding to any sort of question or technical matter quickly.

The class was done privately so that we were able to relax more at her studio. Her class is well organised, very enjoyable.
We respect her artistic personality, that’s the reason why we chose to learn from her. Not only did she teach us the physical techniques, but also the history and culture behind kintsugi. She also introduced us to different types and techniques which leads to more creative ideas.

We are grateful that Yoko san generously shared her precious knowledge and kintsugi skills with us.

She had prepared all the materials and carefully explained and assisted with each step (while still encouraging us to be creative) based on her wealth of experience as an artist and as a teacher. She equips you to practise kintsugi after the workshop. We finished the class in her calming Potts Point apartment with a class of red wine on the balcony with a view of the city.

Yoko was lovely and a master of the craft. Gave some really interesting history on Kintsugi. Perfect morning with green tea, matcha biscuits and stunning views of the CBD!

Yoko san was a wonderful, patient teacher who is very knowledgeable about Kintsugi. She provided all the materials required and I left with a lovely piece.
I will definitely be practicing Kintsugi again as a result of this workshop.
