In this two and a half hour workshop, with guest fibre artist Robyn Morris, we will work with a Bangalow palm inflorescence, which is the seed carrier of our Australian native tree. The inflorescence is freshly fallen and once prepared is deliciously soft and supple for weaving.

We will construct the shape using a random weave method and set out to make a classic spherical shape, but as always the material and your creativity determines the final shape.

Weaving from natural fibres donated by Mother Nature is such a rewarding and humbling experience as you create a decorative and functional piece using just your hands.

This class is a great way to explore ideas of sustainability, connections with the landscape and practise mindfulness while enjoying complimentary organic herbal tea.

As part of helping make a better quality of life for members of the local community, Merchant and Green are committed to reducing waste, encouraging sustainable living and mindfulness.

Basket weaving using natural fibers found in the environment was fantastic! Robin, our teacher, was very helpful with instructions. The class was small, giving us time for individual attention. We learned several techniques which was really nice. The shop was cute and although it was very hot that day it was comfortable enough to complete our baskets. Lindsay, the shop keeper was kind enough to offer us aprons and tea upon our arrival. It was a nice way to meet people and learn something new. Thank you.
