At this exciting Sydney workshop, glass artist, Mark Eliott, will guide you through the process of glass blowing so you and your family, friends or colleagues can walk away with your very own festive glass blown ornament. This private workshop is a fantastic option for anyone after unique work Christmas party ideas or DIY Christmas crafts in Sydney.

This class will include:

  • Safety demonstrations
  • Short flamework experiments
  • The chance to make one glass-blown Christmas ornament

If you’re looking for a way to reward your hard-working team learning how to make blown glass ornaments is a unique experience and doubles as fun team building activities. It is also a cosy and festive way to spend an afternoon with your family or friends.

Please note that if you request a class with four or five participants, it may run slightly over two hours (e.g. 2.5 to 3 hours).

Knowledge required
Suitable for ages 12+ only when accompanied by a responsible adult. Minimum unaccompanied age 16.
 
What you'll get
You will make one glass blown ornament to take home for your family and friends to admire at Christmas.
 
What to bring
You must wear proper clothing - long sleeves and long pants from cotton or other non-flammable material. So no shorts or tees! Full covered shoes at all times and best to tie long hair back on the day. You may like to bring water and a snack.
A container (such as a shoebox) to take your finished piece home after the class.

Mark Eliott is a contemporary artist working primarily in flame-worked glass and also incorporating a variety of media such as music, stop-motion animation and wood carving.

Mark completed a Master of visual arts and Master of Studio Arts at Sydney College of the Arts, as well as an Associate Diploma in Jazz Studies (Saxophone) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Collaborations with other artists are also a feature of Mark's work, for example the stop-motion animation project with Jack McGrath for which they coined the term Flame-ation (flame-glass animation). This work aims to bring glass to life by presenting the object together with animation, and sometimes, live performance.

Mark teaches flame-work and provides interactive demonstrations. He has exhibited internationally and has a strong interest in environmental issues.
