Bind two essential books in one day - a flat book and a rounded back 'Bradel' German case binding book - with Isabelle at this Sydney bookbinding workshop!
Case binding is a way of making books whereby the cover (the case) is made separately from the text block and then attached to it. This course is designed to provide good working knowledge of materials and techniques for a novice or beginner binder.
You will develop skills in both the production and design of handmade books enabling you to go onto more complex and experimental bindings.

Isabelle McGowan is a Florence-trained Bookbinder working through her Bindery, the Owl & Lion. She specialises in Historical Repair and Restoration of Books, Fine Bindings and Traditional Gold Finishing.
Isabelle completed her Fine Arts Degree (Drawing and Painting, Printmaking) at the Edinburgh College of Art, in Scotland. She went on to train as a Bookbinder in Florence, Italy.
The original Owl and Lion Bindery was situated in Old Town Edinburgh, Scotland.
In late 2017, Isabelle and the Owl and Lion Bindery relocated to Sydney, Australia.
