Course description:
What is better than a beautiful hand made card? This is a great introduction to block printing using sustainable and non-toxic printing methods. The tutor will have lots of festive ideas on hand to inspire your creations. We'll also look at elements from the natural environment such as native leaves, plants, seed pods & flowers to create unique designs.

Course content:
You will devise your own designs and print them onto to cards & art paper. Be inspired by printmakers around the world whilst learning a new technique.

Learning outcomes:
• To gain an introduction to block print as a medium
• Develop some simple design for block printing
• Demonstration techniques for block carving
• Print onto card and paper with printing ink
• Learn new skills or build on existing skills in printmaking

Other Information:
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be supplied. There will be tea breaks and lunch which you are welcome to bring with you or there are cafes and markets nearby.

Ideal for:
A fantastic one day workshop that allows for no previous experience in hand printing, and explores this art form in a social and welcoming environment.

Other Information:
Good eye/hand coordination and good dexterity are necessary for this course as sharp knives are used in the cutting of board and paper.
You will be shown correct procedure in the use of these tools but good co-ordination will assure accurate cutting and prevention of injury.
Closed in shoes MUST be worn at all times.

Florence-trained Bookbinder now based in Sydney with over 10 years teaching experience


Isabelle is offering the largest programme of bookbinding classes for all levels in Sydney. There are workshops covering every stage from beginner to those needing more expertise.

Her specialty is in Traditional Fine Binding, however, with her Art degree she has a great interest in Artists Books and how that can be utilised as part of your visual language.

Isabelle completed her Fine Arts Degree (Drawing and Painting, Printmaking) at the Edinburgh College of Art, in Scotland. She went on to train as a Bookbinder in Florence, Italy. Isabelle taught the largest programme of bookbinding classes through her bindery the Owl and Lion, situated in Old Town Edinburgh, Scotland. She also travelled to teach all over the UK and Europe.
