Join Jumping Creek Designs in this fun hand building clay class and learn all you need to know about this beautiful art.

Nerikomi is an artistic style in Japanese pottery, where it uses different coloured clays. This creates stunning designs, patterns and colours on your home decor.

In this relaxing class, you will be given the techniques, tools and clay to make your own personalised nerikomi vase or set of 2-4 cups.

Firstly, you will be shown example vase forms and patterns using a lovely cool grey speckled clay mixed with a creamy white.

Led by local Melbourne ceramicist, you will then create your templates for the vase shape using paper. There will be guide templates which you can alter as much or little as you wish.

Now using the colour samples, you will select your clay colours and do any necessary blending of colours. Once the clay is mixed, you will construct your vases by rolling, cutting and joining.

Lastly, you will do any finishing of edges and refining/smoothing the surface.

After the workshop, your pieces will be bisque fired and a clear glaze will be applied to the inside before it goes into the final glaze and firing. They will then be ready for collection two to four weeks after the workshop.

*The clay provided in the workshop is the grey and white clay as pictured in the photo gallery. If you would like to try using coloured porcelain this is an optional extra which can be purchased either on checkout or on the day. There will be blue and white porcelain available, again you can view the finish in the gallery.
