What you'll do
Merryl’s Mosaics is open to the public to come and make a one-off fused glass piece. No experience is necessary. Just book in, and come and have a fun and creative experience making a fused glass art piece. Great as a casual session, a Party, a Hen's Party, or a Corporate Team Building Event.
Learn the skills of fusing and slumping glass and create a beautiful piece, using skills you will learn at this fun and unique workshop in Melbourne.
Usually, glass art is a complex and expensive activity but at Merryl's Mosaics we have come up with design techniques that are simple, fun and affordable and produce beautiful results.
In this 3 hour workshop, you will learn the basics of glass fusing and then have an opportunity to make some fused glass pieces of art. Fusing glass is when you take a base piece of glass, put a glass design of your choice on it, and then fire the two layers of glass into one piece. The firing takes place in a kiln which is like an oven for glass, setting different temperatures for different outcomes. For example, the glass can be fired smooth or textured. You can also choose to full fuse your piece into a flat piece, or slump the glass into a dish. You will only handle cold glass.
During the workshop you will learn to cut glass; make some simple designs which will be fired so that you can see the effect of different techniques, and then concentrate on making your own unique piece. Initially we were offering a one-price workshop where you make a flat piece approx. 17 x 17cm or a rectangle using similar amount of glass, or make a dish or candle holder of similar size. Due to popular demand, we are now offering a medium size option and a large size option, see pricing below. If you aren't sure you can upgrade on the day. The end result is quite spectacular and delegates are wanting to make bigger and better! At the end of this creative workshop, the pieces will be left at Merryl’s Mosaics for firing and can be picked up about 10 days later.
Glass fusing is a calming and mindful experience. This, together with being creative, social, and relaxing, makes it a unique experience where you will enjoy the moment while learning a new skill and producing something beautiful.
Come and give it a go. Your will love it! And you will be astounded by the results.

Friendly and relaxed environment.
Great and professional tuition and support.
It would have been good to know there would be a limited colour choice related to the pandemic. I would have delayed the class as my piece could do with more colours in it.

We (1 adult, 1 teen and 1 10yr old) all really enjoyed the glass fusing class, the ideas were explained simply and the two teachers were willing to help and sort out my daughter when she got confused. We all ended up with designs we were really happy with and had a great time learning g a bit about a new skill.

I thoroughly enjoyed my glass fusion class from 5 to 8 pm yesterday, with Merryl.
A private class of 4 enabled us to enough assistance without rushing. Merryl made us welcome and clearly explained what we could expect to achieve and the science behind the process. There were plenty of pieces on display or in the photo albums to help decide on what to make in the beginners class.
The equipment was on hand and we were shown how to safely use it as glass is sharp! We all had glasses on (not unusual as we are aged between 74 & 79) to protect our eyes.
We were guided as to what glass to use, that once in the kiln, would have the best effect. There were plenty of colours to choose from.
Thanks for a most enjoyable class. I would encourage anyone who likes trying different mediums of art to have a go.

This was an amazing workshop and found the teacher to be very knowledgeable. I never tried glass fusion before but was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved it and it sparked the desire to do more. The location is great, the materials are all supplied and did not see the time fly. It is an added bonus that I get to go home with a plate that I made.
