Enjoy a unique ceramic making and live music experience at home with this online class and hand building clay kit!

Juni Ross is a ceramics teacher and while they guide you through the hand-building techniques, Mark Chapman (freestyle singer and guitarist) will entertain you with his unique freestyle flow asking you for words as he weaves them into his songs.

This can be a hilarious and highly entertaining experience to be part of, as you allow your senses of touch, sight, and sound to add to your creative flow into your clay masterpiece.

It really is a unique creative experience, not to be missed.

Knowledge required
This is a beginners class, no previous experience necessary.

What you'll get in your craft kit
Firing clay box:
  • Enough fire clay to make two mugs, one to two small - medium-sized plates, vases, or sculptures.
  • Two hand-building timber tools and a sponge for smoothing.
  • Some white speckled glossy glaze, which makes your pieces waterproof after the bisque firing.
  • A special brush to paint your glaze on with.

Instructions on how to fire your piece:
We use a lovely mild groggy white raku clay, that when painted with the white glaze gives you a nice shiny speckled finish and makes it food safe and waterproof. You will need to do two firings at your local kiln. Speak to your local kiln technician and tell him you are using a mid-firing clay.

  • First firing: Bisque 1000 degrees celsius
After you’ve brushed on your glaze you will do the second firing.
  • Second firing: Cone 6-1220 degrees celsius.

Please get in touch if you need help with finding your nearest ceramic studio with a kiln to fire your piece.

Air-dry clay box:
  • Enough air dry clay to make a medium-sized indoor plant pot.
  • Two hand-building timber tools and a sponge for smoothing.

Please note, we use terracotta or white air-dry clay and can take requests for either, but generally will only be able to provide what is in stock.

For air-dry outdoor sculptures or plant pots. You can waterproof your pieces with gloss varnish, you can also finish them off with acrylic paint once completely dry.

If you purchase a second ball of air-dry clay, there are techniques of blending different coloured clays to create a two-tone piece. Please contact your teacher to inquire.
What you'll need
To maximize this experience it is suggested to listen through an external Bluetooth or additional speaker, or you will miss the nuances of Mark's incredible voice.

What you'll need
  • A computer or laptop to watch the class.
  • A smooth flat table surface.
  • Water in a cup or bowl.
  • A dinner plate.
  • A rolling pin or old water or wine bottle.
  • A knife (bread knife will do).
  • A tea towel or a similar-sized piece of cotton cloth.
  • Dental floss (not essential).
Suitable for

This is a fun indoor activity, suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 6 years old). An adult must be present whilst kid(s) engage with the box.

This would also be a nice gift for her, gift for mum, anniversary gift or Xmas gift.
