Creative Writing Class: Editing and Revision

Learn how to edit and revise your creative writing at this interactive North Sydney workshop

4 hours Class size 6 to 10     label $75

Looking to improve your creative writing skills? At this interactive class in North Sydney, you'll learn how to edit and revise your work so that it can be the best it can be!

Writing 'in the grip' of inspiration to find your first draft is a very different process from revising and editing to securing a finished work.

In a first draft, you negotiate with the mysteries of art, but for editing, you need craft and intellectual rigour. John Irving proclaimed that half his life was an act of revision, and Hemingway famously asserted that the first draft of anything "is shit".

Join novelist Janet Fennell and find out about the seven sweeps (or passes) you need to make to de-clutter your manuscript: editing for sound, sense, structure, white-space or chapter-breaks, for brevity and texture, to 'Slay the Explainer', and sort the 'Muddle-in-the-Middle’.

To get more out of this workshop bring along some sort of a manuscript to work on to apply your learning to - a short story or chapter or personal essay or poem or memoir piece or daily blog - however this is not necessary.
