Crochet is one of the oldest crafts in the world and is today labeled as the new ‘Metal Yoga’. Research shows there are many health and wellbeing benefits to repetitive crafts such as crochet. So come and join the crafting craze and craft yourself something uniquely yours. Challenge yourself to use all 10 fingers at once and relax into a mindful, rhythmic activity at the same time.

This is a course that makes learning crochet fun while teaching you everything from how to hold the hook and yarn, starting a chain to learning how to make the basic stitches, counting stitches and rows and reading patterns. It is designed as a complete introductory course in crochet. You don’t need any previous experience. Just come along and have fun.

Agenda (please note this is not an exhaustive list, time permitting we will aim to cover all topics below):

Knowing your yarn (cotton, wool, acrylic etc)
Knowing crochet hooks and sizes
Learn how to hold the crochet hook and yarn
What is tension when creating fabric
Understanding how to start a chain in crochet
Learning the basic 3 crochet stiches with symbols (slip stich, Single crochet, half double crochet, double/treble crochet)
Learn how to join motifs
Learning how to make a granny square
Interpreting and reading simple patterns
Working with colours and a colour wheel
How to change colours on a project
Introducing how to make circles in crochet
Ideas for making simple gifts, small and large projects
Yarn substitutions
Introduction to online resources and a practical guide to yarn buying
Finishing off your piece

Please note, right and left-handed students are welcome. However, please contact the tutor if you are left-handed, as the tutor would like to provide you with personalised handouts to help you to master the skills.
