Robert Henderson, a Wiradjuri man whose tribal name is Birrunga, is the owner and principal artist of the multi award winning Henderson Gallery and Birrang Dining in Brisbane’s CBD.

Robert is dedicated to fulfilling his Cultural responsibilities, following and practicing the central Wiradjuri law of Yindyamarra, which is ‘to do something slowly, to respect, to be gentle, to be polite, to honour’, a path he readily acknowledges challenges him to grow daily.

The Henderson culture is underpinned strong social conscience in principal and in practice, which sees Robert spend time with Indigenous prisoners on a weekly basis.

Robert’s motto is ‘If not for me, then whom’, a tenet which has resulted in the founding of the charity, The Wayne Weaver Foundation, a fledgling organization whose focus is on addressing transport of Indigenous prisoners in SEQ to attend the funerals of loved ones as well as pre and post release, transition and reintegration programmes.

Robert holds positions on a number of boards and panels including the QLD Poetry Festival Board; QTIC Indigenous Champions Network and Member of the Goldbridge First Nations People Reference Group.

Robert is a practicing visual artist whose narrative works explore the spirituality of the Wiradjuri people, in historical and contemporary contexts. Robert enters the Archibald Prize each year and his works are held in private collections across the country.
