Cyanotype Printing Workshop

Learn the Cyanotype process in Dundas

4.5 hours Class size 1 to 6

label $165 (or 4 payments of $41.25 Afterpay)

Join floral artist Lisa Shepherd in an introduction to the historic alternative photographic process of Cyanotype printing or photography without a camera.

Lisa will commence the class with some background information about the history of cyanotypes and how and when they were used, she will then discuss the chemical process and how to prepare for printing.

You will be shown how to safely mix and coat paper and then expose your design to sunlight to produce beautiful Prussian blue coloured artwork. You will be guided in design composition and how to create visually pleasing artwork.

You will learn all aspects of the process including making photograms from pressed flowers and plant cuttings as well as using feathers, lace, doilies, stencils and digital negatives. Be thrilled when you expose your image to reveal beautiful artwork, it never fails to delight.

We will discuss pressing your own flowers and how to preserve them for future work. You are encouraged to bring along your favourite flowers to print with. We will also experiment with making a 'wet cyanotype' which gives a more textured background; very different to the regular colourway which occurs with traditional cyanotype.

If you enjoy photography, working with flowers and historical processes, this four and a half hour course is a perfect opportunity for you to learn a new printing technique in a relaxed environment.

Morning tea will be provided but please bring your own lunch and any specific dietary requirements. All materials are included in this workshop, however, you are encouraged to bring along items from home to experiment with if you are able to.

Bring your creativity and a warm smile as you discover this magical process.

What a great workshop! Lisa was welcoming and made the group feel comfortable straight away. She explained the cyanotype process clearly and was very generous with sharing her knowledge. The venue was perfect for this course and the group size was also good - we all were able to have our questions answered. And the morning tea was delicious!
I left the course inspired to try some cyanotype printing and feel I have enough skills to give it a go at home.

Lisa’s workshop was one of the best I have attended. It was completely hands-on and we completed 5 projects. I now feel perfectly comfortable that I can re-create my efforts at home.
If that were not enough, a morning tea of Lisa’s handmade goodies made for a really delightful day out.

Presentation couldn't have been more thoughtful as well as beautiful. The table was set with a work station for everyone, plus wonderful notes. There was a great morning tea as a warm-up and get to know each other, followed by a visual slideshow. Then Lisa would show what we would do every step of the way and we would follow on. Everyone made artwork to take home, their own styles. Everyone was encouraged to try different techniques. Lisa is a great teacher, warm-hearted, generous and kind. She runs a great cyanotype workshop and I highly recommend anyone to her.
