What you'll do
Discover DIY bookbinding with these fun things to do at home. Learn how to make a hard-cover sketchbook with your own fully designed and printed book cloth and a perfectly folded concertina booklet inside!
This fully led, step-by-step, fast-paced workshop shows you exactly how to make these amazing and unique gift ideas from the comfort of your living room.
What you'll learn:
- Carve a pattern
- Block printing skills
- Print onto book cloth
- Make a hardback book cover with your book cloth
- Fold your concertina book and insert it into your cover
Whew! All done in just an hour. Can we do it? Yes, we can! This little booklet is great for a portable sketchbook or photos and notes.
Make a little booklet during class and with enough materials for two booklets included in our kit, you'll be able to keep making more on your own.
The closing date for booking for those requiring materials delivery in the Sydney Metro areas is four days before class commences.
This workshop booking is for one person only. Additional participants must book in individually, regardless of household arrangement or age.
Refunds:
No refunds for online workshops once commenced or when materials have been posted out. A Zoom link will be sent out to you a few days before. We'll start gathering students 10 minutes before the workshop. Lateness will not be accommodated.

This is a technical workshop, suitable for everyone. The workshop requires a certain level of capability and confidence in using sharp instruments and being able to follow verbal instructions is expected.

Isabelle McGowan is a Florence-trained Bookbinder working through her Bindery, the Owl & Lion. She specialises in Historical Repair and Restoration of Books, Fine Bindings and Traditional Gold Finishing.
Isabelle completed her Fine Arts Degree (Drawing and Painting, Printmaking) at the Edinburgh College of Art, in Scotland. She went on to train as a Bookbinder in Florence, Italy.
The original Owl and Lion Bindery was situated in Old Town Edinburgh, Scotland.
In late 2017, Isabelle and the Owl and Lion Bindery relocated to Sydney, Australia.
