Looking for crafty things to do in Sydney? Experience the perfectly imperfect world of mosaic making with this Sydney Community College course!
In this mosaic making course, you will learn how to add colour and texture to a range of everyday objects using two different mosaic construction methods.
The indirect method is the traditional technique of drawing your design in reverse on paper, glueing the tiles face down with water-based glue on the paper and when the mosaic is complete using a tile adhesive to place the mosaic on your chosen object. You can choose your own design up to approximately 30cm x 30cm, with design details and size discussed with your teacher during the first class.
Then you will learn all about the direct method of glueing broken ceramic tiles directly onto the surface of a straight-sided terracotta pot.
What you will learn throughout the course:
- An introduction to the history of mosaics
- Health and safety
- Two construction methods - the direct and the indirect
- Working with glass tiles and broken ceramics
- How to design and plan your project
