Description

This crash course is great if you have always wanted to learn how to draw: whether your last art class was in high school, or if you just want to refresh or add to your drawing skills and knowledge. What better way to get those creative juices flowing than with a glass of vino/kombucha/juice in hand!

Join me in this fun, hands-on, drawing class. Start off with a few warm-up sketches, followed by exercises introducing some of the essential drawing techniques. The second part is about putting what you’ve learned into practice, where you’ll work on your own piece(s), at your own pace. This allows for the opportunity to ask one-on-one feedback or other questions you might have when you get stuck with the drawing process. We’ll be working with a still life for this first part of the class, but you can bring an image of your own inspiration for the second part.

What will be covered:
- Basics: Talking pencils - 2H, HB, 2B, 6B – why (and how to use them), erasers and paper.
- Different approaches on how to set up your sketch/drawing; as this is maybe the hardest part of the drawing process.
- Proportion: looking into different techniques that will help you to put everything in proportion.
- Phases of a drawing: how to go from sketch to a finished drawing
- Shading and texture: to make sure your drawing looks realistic

All materials and instructions are provided
This is a BYO event, so feel free to bring a glass of your favourite (wine, or non alcoholic drinks).

Hi! I'm Malou, I'm a Sydney based, Dutch illustrator and Teaching Artist. I create colourful and playful illustrations, often with a quirky joke.
My workshops are all about creativity, playfulness and having a great time, while going home with a piece of art that you didn’t know you could create before.
Workshops I run: Watercolours & wine, DIY cards, Recipe illustration and acrylic painting.

Malou was an excellent teacher, full of energy and very attentive (impressively she also remembered everyone's name after just a brief intro - there were 10 of us!). We learnt some fun ways to improve our creativity as well as some more formal techniques. All in all, a fun and fulfilling afternoon. Highly recommended!

Malou was so encouraging and understanding. She made the class so enjoyable and I really felt so much more confident when I left with my drawing skills. I'll work more on my drawing as I only managed to complete the lighter stretch, not the shading and darker lines it needs. I love that we could choose to draw anything and she gave us all individual attention to help with our own specific goals. Also, Malou was so accommodating with the date and time and was a pleasure to organise the class with. The venue was fantastic and great to have a fridge there too. Thanks Malou! We'll be back for a water colour class!
