Fused Glass Workshop for Beginners

Create your own fused glass platter & set of coasters in the Macedon Ranges

2 hours Class size 1 to 10     label $120 - $130 ($130 per guest when you book for 1 guest, $120 for 2+ guests)

In this art glass workshop, you will discover a new medium and have fun with friends while creating your very own large glass platter and set of coasters!

Your instructor will go over the different types of glass and give you a brief rundown on art glass, including System 96 which you will be using to create your pieces. You will be shown the different forms of glass as well as examples of opaque and translucent coloured glass so you can develop your piece. You will be guided in the basics of glass working, including breaking, shaping and designing with glass.

Everyone will be provided with appropriate sized bases of glass for their projects to ensure a solid finished piece after firing. Then working with glass pieces, frits, powders, stringers, and beads you will create and glue your designs ready for firing.

A range of ceramic moulds for shaping platters will also be discussed and you can choose to shape your artwork into a functional dish or leave it flat as a piece of art. Each piece will then be put through our kiln 1-3 times depending on the desired finish and shape of your piece.

As the kilns take time to heat and cool, the glass projects will need to be collected after the class, dependent on the amount of work in the firing queue platters can take up to 2 weeks to be completed.

Anyone who wishes to have their pieces returned via post can add return postage on the booking page and we will ask for the shipping address on the day.

The class was lots of fun for our group of five girlfriends. We got to make a cheese platter and matching coasters with all kinds of glass objects and our instructor Rhain was incredibly knowledgable and helpful. Would recommend for people looking for something different and creative to do on your weekend in kyneton.

Nice and practical straight into making, which is great because we really achieved a lot in two hours! Lovely space, friendly and helpful teacher. Lots of fun! Excited to see what comes out of the kiln :)

I came with a vague idea of what we were going to do. I liked some finished glasswork I had seen for sale. The teacher made the process we were engaging in very clear and how we could make some finished pieces. She was helpful during the class answering peoples’ questions and offering guidance. I would like to do a longer class.
I would recommend this to friends.

Fantastic class! We were all beginners and the teacher was really kind and helpful, offering a terrific balance of giving guidance when it was asked for but also enabling us to be creative and male our own designs. Loads of materials available to experiment with too. We gave the voucher as a gift and attended in a group of 4. It was such a fun morning together! Thank you!
