This is an opportunity for people living with disability to access new enriching creative art experiences. I provide experiences they may not get to have in their everyday life; an experience that stimulates them, builds their skills and confidence and expands them. I am interested in exploring how I can reach people in ways that will open or unlock their creative self-expression; in ways that empower them through experimentation, problem-solving, learning new skills, making their own choices while having fun.

You will be encouraged to experiment and explore self-expression through the mysteries of your own creative process. Being in the moment you will be guided to make art by combining various art materials and objects. You will experience freedom of self -expression, and the confidence, independence and empowerment that comes with making your own choices as you will be led by your own creative process. What you produce will be a reflection of your own inner realm.

• You will be offered entry points to your inner world through working with tactile materials like clay or paint and colour, or conceptually by accessing your imagination, your dreams. You may identify with a hero/heroine, movie character or scene.

• You will externalise your own inner world through the creation of peep hole shoe box Mystery Worlds. You will bring forth self-expression from your inner worlds as you work with your imaginations.

• You will experiment with new ways of working with materials, be guided to explore and learn new techniques, as you develop the confidence and abilities to expression yourself through visual art.

I love to connect with the disability community. I see them produce amazing fun art and memories they can take away with them that empower them in their lives. I love to see what they do and where they go with what I make available to them. They inspire and amaze me with their unique creations.

"I find since my client has started art she has become a lot more confident with herself. During the sessions Leah enables my client to make her own decisions in which has had a positive impact on her home life as she is more confident with making day to day choices. Once the session is over you can notice by my client's body language after a session that she feels accomplished. During the sessions my client is always consistently calm and collected and has enjoyed each project both her and Leah do.

"In one of the workshops there was a young woman who wasn’t wanting to participate. She said that she was no good at art or crafts. The support workers told us she doesn’t do anything when we are at home either. Leah took time aside and worked with the young woman. Leah encouraged her and gave her confidence in her choices and ideas. It seemed no one have given her that chance to express herself in this way. What was surprising was we had three different projects they could create and this woman was so excited by her new found inspiration that she wanted to do all three and went from not wanting to do anything to discovering her artistic side. Leah had gently guided her in finding a new creative expression and I would assume that in the future she will continue to explore and create. It was so special to see a spark light up in her."

"I have had the pleasure to assist Leah as a facilitator at Sparks for four years. I have observed how calmly she connects and makes a difference to adults of various abilities. Leah ensured everything worked so that everyone could participate. Because of that this meant many people unlocked a creativity and a new passion in her workshop. It perfectly ignited the spark which is the point of the experience."

"I've worked with Leah on a few festivals that I have directed and she has an insightful way of reaching into your mind and be able to get what you are wanting to say without too much explanation. She then is able to produce an aligned workshop based on the theme that has been created."

For me Art is a powerful, multi-dimensional language. Art is communication. I am passionate about what I do as an artist and I am motivated to inspire and make access to this language of the visual available to others. I do this by connecting with my students, tuning into their inner artist and guiding them to explore new ways to express themselves creatively. I empower and inspire my students though my passion, communication and facilitation style.
I am a multi-talented visual artist with many years of experience, and many varied skills and talents to offer. I have strong visualisation and conceptual skills along with the practical and technical ability to fulfil on creative vision. I have years of experience of planning and facilitating successful art workshops and classes.
I am a creative artist who produces groundbreaking works using painting and digital media. With a talent for capturing ideas visually, for me art communicates ideas. As a result of my personal experience of the power of art, I have a strong commitment to opening others to what’s available through exploring self-expression, creativity and fun.
I attained a Master of Visual Arts. I am a qualified Workplace Trainer and Assessor and have taught art at universities, TAFE and schools. I also run art workshops for people with intellectual disabilities.
