If you still want to attend this class, please first consider government restrictions in VIC. If you are currently allowed to attend, but are later prevented from doing so, we will either postpone your booking, or refund you. You are always welcome to gift this class.

In this three-hour workshop with Paperazzi Design studios resident paper artist, Michelle Lackenby, you’ll learn a variety of traditional binding stitch techniques and patterns to create your very own books to take home.

The techniques covered include simple Japanese stitch, Japanese stab binding, Hemp stitch and tortoiseshell binding. Each technique builds on the last and all notes and materials will be supplied so you can create your own set of softcover books to take home.

Michelle will demonstrate the art of Suminagashi, also known as Japanese Marbling, guiding you through the process step-by-step, before creating your own beautiful marbled papers.

Come along and have a fun afternoon creating your very own handmade books combining Japanese binding and paper marbling techniques! No experience necessary and all materials will be provided.

Please note: This class requires at least five students to run. In the unlikely event that we don't get this number of students, we'll cancel the class and fully refund you and inform you via email, so please watch your email a few days prior to the class

Michelle explained instructions well and accomadated for people who learnt at different paces.
(To Michelle) I noticed not everybody made it through all 4 books. Please consider; providing less content or allowing more time.
Overall I really enjoyed the course and highly recommend to others :)

Very engaging, not only learning the bookbinding aspect but also some of the history and theory behind different styles. All materials provided with a range of options to personalise the books was nice. Timing was a little tight for me as i was slower in making the books but michrlle had planned well to accommodate those who were faster so no one was waiting for others to finish, she always had something more that people could be working on.
Overall, a lot of fun

I enjoyed the class — Michelle is a great instructor and she was funny, insightful and supportive. She has a lot of knowledge and experience to offer. The class introduced me to many new tools and techniques that I will absolutely use in the future. It was a little hard to keep up with the class’ pace, though, and a result I didn’t get to learn all four of the intended binding techniques. But it is great that we get all the notes from the class to use at home, and I look forward to making many more books thanks to what I’ve learnt from this class.

Michelle was great: she let us go at our own pace, showing us what to do next but also helping those of us who struggled with some aspect of technique. The range of materials available was good, and the whole atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming.
