Spring has sprung! And October in the Blue Mountains is a time when we're welcomed by an array of beautiful flowers blossoming including white and pink sakura flowers.

To celebrate this natural beauty is this jelly flower art class where jelly flowers are artistically made by injecting a colourful base into clear gelatin forming petals, leaves and other shapes.

All colours are plant-based and made from natural vegetable and fruit colourings. Ingredients include agar agar (a sea vegetable that works like gelatin), coconut milk and sugar. If you have diabetes, please inform the instructor in advance and a sugar alternative will be replaced.

Flowers are usually drawn using a simple syringe with a needle and specialised jelly art tools which can be purchased from the instructor if you wish to purchase a set to continue creating at home.

An ex-art educator, life coach, BodyMind Institute superfood nutritionist (2001) and author of three books with one newly published in 2019 entitled “Bliss Pure Foods: Living in Full Colors”. Owned a raw/vegan cafe for two years before going full time into Nature, planting, travelling and providing training around meditative food making, eco-arts and crafts, vegan home cooking that includes healthy fermentation techniques and creative recipes.

I did this class with my mum and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The jelly flowers might look easy on YouTube but requires skill and patience so we highly recommend having a teacher like Kathryn. She makes the learning fun and walks you through each step with hands- on support and encouragement. Once you get the hang of it it’s a lot of fun and very satisfying. All materials provided and also available for purchase from Kathryn as well so you can do it at home. Venue easy to find.

Fantastic lesson with very experienced and talented teacher. This art form takes a lot of practice to perfect. Clear and concise instructions, easy to follow. Venue easy to find.
