Your kids will learn how to taste and prepare food from different cuisines so they can appreciate and discover new cultures, ingredients, combinations, flavours and aromas. They will also learn the importance of healthy eating, how to read the nutrition labels and gain awareness of food waste.

In this five-day course, we will do a 15 minute kitchen orientation before starting the class. Our experienced chefs will make demonstrations and assist the kids to start working in pairs and groups. They will then create two-course meal per day - entree, main or dessert; focusing on different cuisines each day.

After preparing the meals we will sit together to enjoy and try the other teams food, so we can learn from each other. Our cooking class is the perfect experience for kids to learn to taste, cook and understand about teamwork during school and school holidays.

Your children will have so much fun, gain valuable skills, develop their confidence, explore their creativity and make new friends. Each holiday term our chef will prepare different menus to continue with the fun.

Sample menu:

Day 1 - Chinese Cooking
- San choi bow with prawns and pork
- Special fried Rice
- Chicken wonton

Day 3 - Vietnamese Cooking
- Rice paper rolls with dipping sauce - or
- Spring rolls vegetarian
- Chicken wonton soup with vegetables

Day 4 - Italian Cooking
- Hand made pasta with Napolie sauce
- Grill vegetable salad
- Cannoli with pastry cream

Day 5 – Japanese Cooking
- Sushi salmon, avocado or vegetarian - GF
- Japanese pancake with vegetable and bacon
- Cup of Miso

On the day:
Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start time of the class. We cannot accommodate or refund for those who arrival after the scheduled start time, even if you call ahead. The instructor will be expected to start on time and will not be able to repeat the health and safety and/or demonstrations at the beginning of the class.

Important info:
We can cater to different dietary requirements. If you need to cancel or reschedule a booking you must do this at least seven days before your class to cancel or reschedule. We are sorry that we cannot refund or rebook any cancellations made online or in person after this time. In the event that you are unwell we ask that you send someone in your place. The participants who are not unwell will still be expected to attend. Alternatively, if you provide notice prior to the class, you are welcome to collect the ingredients and online recipe to take home with you after the class. Please note that this may not be possible as fresh meats and seafoods in all cases.

Chef Hà Nguyen began his career in Hanoi local restaurants and the Hilton Opera Hotel before travel, study and work in Wellington, New Zealand –New Zealand Diploma in Cookery and Bachelor in Hospitality Management at Wellington Institute of Technology. Chef Hà has started with Intercontinental Hotel Wellington, working with Twelve Apostles Lodge Walk developing menu for Alkina Lodge along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, delivering nourishing and fresh menus to clients.

He believes that cooking, eating and sharing should be an experience, not just a meal. He created OTAO Kitchen as an extension of his passion for food and to share this passion with others. Food plays an important role in his Vietnamese culture heritage and is central to his family life. Sharing a meal with family and loved ones is a traditional and happy experience. He wishes to extend this experience to you and welcome you to OTAO Kitchen.
