Embark on this four day course for a fun culinary experience learning about other cultures through cooking and gain knowledge about seasoning, knife skills, food safety, food policy, and sustainability.

Perfect for the school holidays, this cooking class gives your kids the chance to get a taste of what cooking and working in a restaurant might be like. They'll experiment with fresh ingredients and new flavours from different cuisines each day including Thai food, Vietnamese, Italian and Japanese cuisine.

A junior chef will lead the team for the day and everyone will get to work prepping to create three dishes within their kitchen team. They will learn how to make healthy food choices and prepare meals to a budget. The meals will be served at the end and everyone will have a chance to taste the other teams food so they can learn from their friends.

This course is a fun way to spend the school holidays or summer holidays experimenting with new flavours, learning valuable skills, meeting new friends and understanding the value of teamwork. Each holiday term our chef will prepare different menus, so you can continue coming back.


Sample menu:

Day 1 - Thai Restaurant
- Fish cakes, bean and lime leaf
- Thai larb with pork
- Thai red curry with beef
- Green chicken curry, bean, eggplant
- Thai papaya salad
- Thai sticky rice and mango

Day 2 – Vietnamese Restaurant
- Nuoc cham - Fish sauce dip
- Goi cuon – Fresh rice paper rolls
- Chả giò - Spring rolls - Vegetarian or pork
- Bo La Lot - Beef in betel leaf
- Pho Ga Traditional Chicken Noodle Soup
- Fried pork dumplings
- Vietnamese vermicelli noodle salad
- Cream caramel and complimentary refresher on arrival

Day 3 - Italian Cooking
- Hand made pasta and home made tomato sauce
- Hand made potato gnocchi (can be GF)
- Totally tender meatballs in tomato Sauce
- Risotto with seafood or mushroom (GF option)
- Best ever tiramisu

Day 4 – Japanese Restaurant
- Miso soup
- Makisushi
- Gyoza- pork and ginger dumplings
- Okonomiyaki savoury pancake
- Ramen- Pork broth
- Chicken teriyaki
- Pickled daikon and carrot


On the day:
Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start time of the class. We cannot accommodate or refund for those who arrival after the scheduled start time, even if you call ahead. The instructor will be expected to start on time and will not be able to repeat the health and safety and/or demonstrations at the beginning of the class.

Important info:
We can cater to different dietary requirements. If you need to cancel or reschedule a booking you must do this at least seven days before your class to cancel or reschedule. We are sorry that we cannot refund or rebook any cancellations made online or in person after this time. In the event that you are unwell we ask that you send someone in your place. The participants who are not unwell will still be expected to attend. Alternatively, if you provide notice prior to the class, you are welcome to collect the ingredients and online recipe to take home with you after the class. Please note that this may not be possible as fresh meats and seafoods in all cases.

Chef Hà Nguyen began his career in Hanoi local restaurants and the Hilton Opera Hotel before travel, study and work in Wellington, New Zealand –New Zealand Diploma in Cookery and Bachelor in Hospitality Management at Wellington Institute of Technology. Chef Hà has started with Intercontinental Hotel Wellington, working with Twelve Apostles Lodge Walk developing menu for Alkina Lodge along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, delivering nourishing and fresh menus to clients.

He believes that cooking, eating and sharing should be an experience, not just a meal. He created OTAO Kitchen as an extension of his passion for food and to share this passion with others. Food plays an important role in his Vietnamese culture heritage and is central to his family life. Sharing a meal with family and loved ones is a traditional and happy experience. He wishes to extend this experience to you and welcome you to OTAO Kitchen.
