Kids Pottery Holiday Class

How to use the pottery wheel, sculpting and ceramic painting

2 hours Class size 1 to 4 label $63

This two-hour creative experience is suitable for 7-12 year old children and includes a bundle of pottery activities, such as the pottery wheel, sculpting, and ceramic painting. By the end of the two-hours, each child will make two pottery pieces which they get to keep.

Each child will spend some time at the pottery wheel and will be assisted by the teacher to create a shape of their choice. The young artists will also experiment with freely forming the clay to sculpt quirky objects and will have the opportunity to decorate their work with colourful ceramic paints.

Kiln-firing is included in the price but it takes approximately two weeks for the pieces to be ready for collection.

Please note that if you book both the morning (10am-12pm) and the afternoon (1pm-3pm) sessions on the same day then your child/children will be supervised in the lunch break. If you choose that option then please make sure that your child/children bring their own lunch.

My memory of working with clay reaches back to my childhood, when I first attended a pottery course. My teachers encouraged me to go to art school, however I have pursued a different career. I studied psychology, completed a PhD, and have become a university lecturer. I have been a sessional academic since 2003 and throughout the years I have taught various subjects in the areas of cognition, neuroscience, and educational psychology.

It was in 2015 that I found my way back to clay and started to embark on my creative adventures. I have coined the term 'Wheelfulness' to connect the practice of working on the pottery wheel with the psychology of mindfulness. In my Wheelfulness classes, I encourage students to reflect on how their ability to master the clay is enhanced by positive mindset and repeated practice. I believe that this ‘wheelful' approach not only helps students become better potters but benefits other aspects of their life.

Nice and sunny well lit venue, very organised space, friendly and patient teacher. Very helpful with kids and accomodating to their needs. Very informative and the whole process was known of what was involved. A little pricey but worth the experience.

Teacher very experienced, she really encouraged my son. He is inspired to do more!
So nice for him to want to do something off screen.

Lovely creative space, great for small groups in the heart of Willoughby. Bettina and her team were wonderful teachers for our kids (10yrs), they were very welcoming, energetic, engaged with the kids and presented a well structured use of the 2 hours that kept them busy and constantly creating. Recommended for anyone, young and old, looking to give this a try.

I booked a 2 hour class for my 6yo daughter and two of her friends. The girls had a fantastic time! They learnt how to shape clay on the wheel as well as how to shape it with hand.
We made 2 clay pots during the session. Great teacher. We’ll be going back to her for more in the next school holidays.
