What you'll do

Learn calligraphy and appreciate this beautiful art in a modern pointed pen calligraphy class.

This class is suitable for beginners, as you will learn how to write with a pointed nib and ink, the script style, letter construction and characteristics, flourishing, numerals, and colour, layout and design skills.

The class will begin with an introduction to the rich history of calligraphy and the contemporary style of the course (this workshop focuses on modern pointed pen). You will then work with dip pen and ink learning this modern script style of lettering before adding your own flair.

At the end of the class, you will be able to apply letters and numerals of the modern pointed pen, spatial awareness, colour and design techniques and layout skills to your own work.

We have a series of Sydney workshops which will introduce you to each of the contemporary styles:

If you will purchase a kit please bring $25 cash (not included in the course fee), as well as:

Ruler Water jar Pencil

If you wish to purchase ALL materials yourself, please bring the following:

A4 or A3 layout pad – Canson Copperplate or pointed pen nib- Zebra G nib recommended Pen holder – either straight pen holder or an oblique holder specifically for Copperplate Ink- Black Sumi ink or Chinese stick ink Coloured inks, gouache, coloured pencils Ruler, pencil HB Water jar, rag. Other supplies will be advised if needed throughout the course.

Sharon has been teaching in adult education for nineteen years at Community Colleges and has a Diploma In Western Calligraphy. She has developed and run workshops introducing her students to the art of calligraphy and its many benefits. Sharon has a comprehensive background in design and layout, water colour painting, Botanical Art and Chinese Brush painting. Her love of Calligraphy and its history makes her passionate about what she teaches to all.
