Urban Micro-farming Workshop

Learn all about veggies, mushrooms, composting and poultry on an urban scale

6 hours Class size 8 to 20     label $180

This full day workshop is an introduction to bio-intensive vegetable production, composting, poultry integration and mushroom production on an urban scale. Whether you are just getting started with growing your own food or have been wanting to grow more, this workshop will get you skilled up & growing more food at home.

The workshop combines three fun hands-on sessions with detailed course notes full of practical skills and resources. The first session covers seedling propagation, preparing a growing space, vegetable crop spacing and chemical-free crop protection methods to maximise your productivity of nutrient-dense veggies in a small space.

The second session covers the art of composting, and tips on integrating poultry into your urban food production system. We explore a range of composting approaches so you can choose what's best for your context.

In the last session, you'll discover how easy it is to grow your own supply of fresh oyster mushrooms and the steps involved in simple mushroom cultivation. You even get to take home your own mushroom grow bag and enjoy growing and harvesting your very own flush of oyster mushrooms!

The workshop takes place at our home and urban micro-farm in the lower Blue Mountains. Jo and Joe operate a small scale commercial urban market garden, supplying veggie boxes to the local community and businesses. We love sharing the skills we have learned over the past decade to maximise food production and minimise waste.
