Ever wanted to craft your own silver jewellery? This workshop is the perfect introduction for those looking to dip their toes in the shiny world of silversmithing.
Using the ancient method of lost wax carving, you will learn an easy and low-cost method for making unique pieces all on their own. Lost wax carving starts with making a wax model of your desired object, which is used to create a metal mould called casting. The casts are then taken to have molten silver poured into the mould and, once hardened, filed or carved into its final shape.
We’ll cover the different varieties of wax and their properties, and how to create a ring using basic shaping techniques with files and carving tools. You’ll gain an understanding of the lost wax technique, casting and the finishing of metal jewellery.
Explore texture and pattern through the creation of several wax rings and select a favourite to have finished in 925 Silver. You can collect your finished ring three to four weeks after the class.
Please note: This class requires at least eight students to run. In the unlikely event that we don't get this number of students, we'll cancel the class and fully refund you and inform you via email, so please watch your email a few days prior to the class.
