What you'll do
Step into the magical world of eco-printing and discover how simple spontaneous leaf prints can be created using locally gathered plants, mordants and common metals.
This workshop will give you an introduction to eco-printing where you learn the basic techniques and discover what is possible, ready to go home and continue your dying experiments. The workshop will include printing on paper and each participant will have their own paper prints and silk scarf to take home at the end.
You will be taken through the whole process of eco-dyeing with demonstrations and hands-on experience of techniques, examples of different effects that can be created, and plenty of scope to start from basic techniques and then trial different plants, metals, and wrapping techniques.
While we wait for our prints to develop, you will have a delicious locally sourced lunch and a coffee to keep you going throughout the day! During this time, we'll discuss the various properties and types of papers that can be used for dyeing.
All materials, tools, and a variety of plants sustainably and mindfully collected from around the Macedon Ranges are provided, but anyone who has a favourite plant in their garden that they wish to trial is more than welcome to bring it along (dried or fresh).

Janet wears many hats but 'crazy scientist' is by far her favourite! Janet is a scientist, teacher, published author and artist based in the Macedon Ranges and loves showing the amazing results at the intersection of Art and Science!
When she is not wrangling her primary school she can be found exploring and nurturing her 10 acres with her family in Woodend or creating in the studio pushing boundaries and frequently asking the questions 'why' and 'why not'.
Janet loves teaching adults and children and believes it's never too early or too late to try something new!

The Old Auction House is an independently run multi-use arts precinct located in the regional Victorian town of Kyneton, just an hour north of Melbourne. Housed in a historic weatherboard building, which served as the much loved Ferris auction rooms for over 80 years, the precinct opened in April 2017 and is home to a variety of artistic spaces.
The Old Auction House is currently home to a retail shop specialising in quality Australian handmade items, four working artist studios including local glass artists Leadlight By Ettore, a teaching space for visiting artists, and two gallery spaces with rotating exhibitions.
The Old Auction House is open 7 days and the entire space has been renovated to be accessible for those with prams, wheelchairs, and mobility issues.
The Old Auction House has a focus on community engagement in the arts. Each studio runs a variety of classes with different artists and materials throughout the year.
