Description

Nicole McCarthy started 'Hands On Workshop' (HOW) following multiple trips to Tokyo, Japan, where she witnessed craft shops with access to materials unavailable outside of Japan. In Nicole's opinion, the 'tenugui' fabric used for lampshade making is the ideal weight and texture for shades. HOW encourages beginner crafters to utilise these authentic Japanese fabrics to create beautiful patterns and designs.

In this workshop, you will learn how to make your own drum lampshade, 20-25cm in diameter and 20-30cm high, perfect as a small table lamp or hanging pendant. Experiment with a selection of contemporary Japanese Tenugui fabrics, craft kits, tools and accessories in this hands-on workshop and leave with fresh adornment for your home or gift.

This workshop is ideal for Hens events, Birthdays or Baby Showers.

This class is available on Request for groups of 6+.

Don't have a group of 6+ students? If you're happy to pay a higher price per person (total of $540 for the class), you can just Request to book this class for 6 students (and attend with fewer guests).

I started Hands On Workshop after visiting craft shops in Tokyo, and discovering the materials are not readily available outside of Japan. At the time I was learning lampshade making and found the Tenugui fabrics are the perfect weight and texture for shades, and a novel way to work with beautiful patterns and designs without having any sewing skills! HOW imports craft kits, tools and accessories which suit beginner crafters, from leatherwork and Shibori dye kits to colourful sewing supplies and (soon to come) fabric patterns. We translate any tricky instructions into English to make the kits accessible for the wider crafting community.
