Intro to Leadlight Windows Weekend

How to make a leadlight window from scratch in the Macedon Ranges

2 x 5 hours Class size 4 to 10     label $330 ($350 per guest when you book for 4+ guests, $330 for 4+ guests)

Learn the process of creating a leadlight window from pattern and glass selection, to glass cutting, breaking, and shaping, working with lead cames, and soldering, puttying, and finishing panels in our custom-built studio in our historic precinct.

Working with your choice of one of our pre-prepared patterns you will be shown all of the relevant skills including how to cut and shape glass pieces using glass cutters and glass grinders. Projects are kept to a manageable size and design so that you will be able to experience the whole process of creating a leadlight panel.

The workshop costs include all materials required and all tools will be provided in the studio.

The class will run in two sessions to allow for the whole process to be explored.
Session 1: 10:30am- 3:30pm Saturday (includes break for lunch which is provided)
Session 2: 10:30am - until project is finished on Sunday (some participants may finish their projects earlier).

Lunch will be provided on the first day using all local organic produce and can cater for any dietary requirements you may have. We also provide you with a divine afternoon treat and tea and coffee facilities are available throughout the course. We anticipate that participants will be completed in time to check out one of our great local cafes for a late lunch on Sunday.

Accessibility
Leadlight By Ettore's studio is fully accessible for mobility aids and wheelchairs, if you require our modified wheelchair workbench please notify us upon booking.

Health and Safety Warning:
Please be aware that this workshop will place participants in contact with a small amount of lead in both the lead came and the soldering process, participants who are pregnant or have other medical concerns are recommended to seek medical advice.

Please note
Sessions at The Old Auction House require a minimum of four participants to run. In the event that we do not have sufficient students we will cancel the class and contact you a minimum of 24 hrs prior to the session to organise a full refund or transfer to another date.

Knowledge required
This class is suitable for beginners - no experience necessary. This is an Adult workshop and is suitable for ages 16+.

What you'll get
Each participant will complete a sample panel to take home, all tools and materials are provided for use during the course and a wide range of colours and textures of glass are available for use in your project. Get a solid basis in the skills and materials for creating leadlight windows to allow you to create on your own after the course finishes. Lunch and afternoon snack provided on the first day, and tea or coffee throughout.

What to bring
  • Any participants who have tools at home which they think may be useful for leadlighting are welcome to bring them in to use or for teachers to check their suitability for home use.

Totally enjoyed myself.
A two day class. Very quick with hands on, which was great. The atmosphere was quiet enthusiasm as each person got on with their own work. We were called together to learn the next stage. A large range of glass to choose from, the leaders were happy to cut into a new sheet if you needed them to.
I was extremely pleased with my finished product and look forward to perhaps a different class in the future.

One of the best weekends I have had in a long time. The workshop is wonderful. The teachers were so knowledgeable and extremely helpful and patient. It’s amazing that after only 2 days you are walking away with a beautiful finished window to hang at home. The time goes so fast as you are so focused on what you are going and it’s so much fun. The lunch was lovely and the coffee machine a bonus. All equipment is supplied along with an amazing array of glass to choose from so all you need to do it turn up. Highly recommend.

I recently had the opportunity to do the Intro to Leadlight Windows Weekend & I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun I had at making the piece. The location was great in picturesque Kyneton, easy parking, gift shop on site. The studio had everything you needed, you were gently guided by Ettore & his daughter on how to proceed & step by step through the process at your own pace, (as well as Ettore's wife & another lady assisting) they were all extremely knowledgeable, very patient & organised. Lunch & coffee was provided on day one, which hit the spot. I believe the class was great value for money, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, was proud of what I made & will definitely be back for another class. I also loved looking at the other students work as their finished product. Top teachers, great people, pleasant venue & well run business. Highly recommended. Thank you ♡♡

I have always been enamoured by leadlight windows since I was a child and I never thought I would be able to make a panel myself, but I did!
