What you'll do

The human face has been a source of inspiration and challenge to artists through the ages. Humans are biologically drawn to connect with faces and the feelings they convey, making portraiture a time-honoured art form in drawing, painting and sculpture.
Join Elinor online to learn and practice the drawing basics for capturing the human face. Whether you are drawing for the very first time or have some experience, this short course will help you develop the skills and techniques to draw faces.
Course outline:
- Geometric equivalents of the head, neck and shoulders
- Cranial mass and its influence on the appearance of head and face
- Characteristics of facial features and how to observe them in all faces
- Capturing gestures and expressions.
By the end of this online course, you'll have a greater understanding of portrait drawing techniques and the confidence to continue learning in your own time!

Elinor Pickard is a practising artist, a painter with drawing at the centre of her practice. Elinor's interest in fine and decorative arts is reflected in her paintings, specifically those centred on botanical and floral subjects, rich with colour and often incorporating her fine gilding techniques. She also enjoys urban sketching and capturing the interactions between people, and the human figure within the built urban environment.
An attentive and encouraging art educator, Elinor has been teaching adults since 2016. She has also run regular children's art classes since 2015.
