Description


Experiment and learn how to make your own ceramics at this fun beginner’s throwing class.

This throwing class is the perfect introduction for anyone wanting to have some hands on experience working with clay on the wheel. This informative and fun workshop will teach you everything you need to know about how to prepare clay, throw and trim using a wheel and glaze your works.

Your experienced pottery teacher will give a 1 to 1 lesson or teach small groups of two people. You will be provided detailed live demonstrations and the artist will be on hand to answer any questions and give help as you need it.

Duration is 2 hours for each session. In the first session you will learn how to prepare the clay, centre the ball of clay on the wheel and have the chance to experiment and create a few different pots on the wheel.

In the second session, you will learn how to trim the edges of your pots and add the finishing touch to your pots.

In the last session, you will learn how to glaze your pots and where it will be fired in the kiln so you will be able to take it away with you and use it at home. (Firing fee is additional to the course fee which is $15/ per kilo)

Just remember to wear casual and comfortable clothing as they’re guaranteed to get splattered with clay or bring yourself an apron. Please ensure your nails are cut short and long hair should be tied back. All of your materials including the clay and tools will be provided on the day.

Shinhee Ma

Shinhee G. Ma is an Australian, freelance ceramic artist based in Sydney. She is specialised in making contemporary sculptural wares that are playful and functional for everyday use.

Shinhee’s passion for ceramics began when she was enrolled in ceramic course at TAFE. She has completed a B.A (Hons) degree in ceramics at Sydney College of the Arts (University of Sydney) in 1999 and studied Master of Design at College of Fine Arts (UNSW COFA) in 2002. Shinhee has been working as a pewter cutlery/ giftware designer for five years after graduating university and has been teaching art and craft to children for many years.
