In this hands-on one-day workshop, "gemstonelux" in the Blue Mountains, you will learn the techniques to create a made-to-measure ring with a stone handmade by you!
During this full-day workshop, you’ll be taken through the steps to creating a beautiful piece of jewellery featuring a semi-precious cabochon set in sterling silver. You'll learn to make the entire piece, including the ring band, which will fit your finger perfectly, so you will be able to wear your ring home after the workshop.
First, you’ll learn how to work with metal, first using copper to practice cutting and soldering. Then move on to creating your own beautiful sterling silver ring with a gemstone. You’ll learn to size the bezel needed for a stone, cut the right length of your bezel wall, saw out the backplate of the setting, solder a setting together, polish your piece, and finally set your stone to create your stunning, unique piece of jewellery.
You'll be able to choose the type/colour/size of round cabochon gemstone. Standard size gemstones will be included in the workshop fee.
You're also welcome to bring your own cabochon gemstone to set in your ring, as long as it has been approved prior to the workshop.
What techniques are covered?
