A beautiful and practical art portfolio, made with traditional bookbinding techniques, is unsurpassed in quality and luxury. Whether you use it to store all your beautiful artwork or as a lover of beautiful papers, a traditional portfolio like this one is priceless.
At this unique online class, you'll learn how to make a traditional artist portfolio in A4 or A3 size with beautiful marbled papers, which you'll then cover in a book cloth.
This is a portfolio constructed in the best of traditional box making techniques, using materials that will endure over time.
Materials:
Materials can be included, or you can supply your own. If you are sourcing materials yourself, you can use what is suggested below for ease.
The closing date for booking for those requiring materials delivery in the Sydney Metro areas is four days before your class commences.
Tool and material options:
- Option one: A full materials pack couriered out to you, free post.
- Option two: Select individual Premium tools or standard tools for purchase as necessary.
Refunds:
No refunds for Online workshops once commenced. A Zoom link will be sent out to you a few days before. We'll start gathering students 10 minutes before the workshop. Lateness will not be accommodated.

Please note: This is a technical workshop. The workshop requires a certain level of capability and confidence in using sharp instruments and being able to follow verbal instructions is expected.

Isabelle McGowan is a Florence-trained Bookbinder working through her Bindery, the Owl & Lion. She specialises in Historical Repair and Restoration of Books, Fine Bindings and Traditional Gold Finishing.
Isabelle completed her Fine Arts Degree (Drawing and Painting, Printmaking) at the Edinburgh College of Art, in Scotland. She went on to train as a Bookbinder in Florence, Italy.
The original Owl and Lion Bindery was situated in Old Town Edinburgh, Scotland.
In late 2017, Isabelle and the Owl and Lion Bindery relocated to Sydney, Australia.
