Hi, My name is Martha.
I started my art, lettering & calligraphy journey in oil painting in the 1990s, western calligraphy in 2012 with cursive writing on my wedding day In New Zealand, I was then moving on to modern calligraphy & part-time learning on traditional scripts in the USA. Later in the mid-late 2014, and early 2015, started teaching modern calligraphy online due to my nomad life and travels constantly, I also started fully focus study in Traditional Spencerian Script and Engrosser's Script / Copperplate / Roundhand. Mid of 2015 separating my personal account and Instagram account for calligraphy. 2016, while still continuing to study the traditional script from several master penmen & professional artists in the US, I started adding my focus study to monogram design, and in 2018 in gilding / Illumination design / fine art painting (Watercolour and gouache).
From 2019 to 2021, I have received three International certifications from IAMPETH (International Association of Master Penmen, Engravers and Teachers of Handwriting):
Certificate of Proficiency in Spencerian Script 2019
Certificate of Excellence in Spencerian Script in 2020
Certificate of Proficiency in Border (Art and Illumination) 2021
Information is free, knowledge is priceless. Learning from many teachers that including your talented friends although they discussed the same script with each other is one of my mottos, and what I learned by living nomad, and that's how you can broaden your eyes & improve your knowledge with lots of methods in one script style.
I moved to Sydney in 2018, hosting workshops of some calligraphy masters in Singapore, teaching workshops & private classes in Indonesia, and I'm settling down in Sydney. All those things are the projects that I still do and teach today, except oil painting :) I currently focus on teaching modern traditional script through private workshops, one-on-one classes and online classes. Hoping to share the basic knowledge with a fun process that can still be enjoyed by many people in this generation.

This was an amazing course! Martha was such a patient and well-educated teacher, who clearly explained each step, and helped trouble shoot any problems which arose. She was incredibly helpful, and her guidance has helped me build my confidence in using a pointed pen for calligraphy. The materials supplied were beautifully packaged and of high quality - very suitable for complete beginners! Not only was the course incredibly practical, it was also super interesting and informative. I cannot reccomend this course enough! Thank you Martha!
