This is a ClassBento VideoBox class! From the comfort of your home, share an artisan experience with your friends, family or colleagues, or just enjoy it yourself. As seen on The Guardian, TimeOut, Broadsheet, Concrete Playground, Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, and more. Here's how it works:

  1. We'll deliver a ClassBento Box to you - this is a physical DIY craft box containing the materials you'll need. Shipping is free, and it should arrive within 7 business days. We ship nationwide.
  2. Enjoy the online class. You'll receive a pre-recorded video with instructions. You're welcome to contact the teacher if you have any questions about it.

Join this class and you are in for a real treat! Combining together both art and science, Michael Assis, will lead you into the fantastical world of Miura-ori.

Miura-ori provides a floppy sheet with form and stiffness. Scientists have explored how to use Miura-ori to build a number of three-dimensional structures with applications in robotics, aerospace and architecture. Even fashion designers have incorporated Miura-ori into everyday clothing.

While we won’t be jumping off the deep end, you will be creating mesmerising lamps and shades that rely on the intricate lines and folds that make up Miura-ori.

At the end of the class, you will have turned a sheet of paper into a vase that can hold its own and some beautiful contents too!

Michael is a science celebrity in his own right, and is the author of the work that’s the first to model origami using a pencil-and-paper approach that produces exact solutions — calculations that don’t rely on approximations or numerical computation.

While we won’t be jumping off the deep end into his seminal work on statistical mechanics you will be creating mesmerizing lamps and shades that rely on the intricate lines and folds that make up Miura-ori.

Paper has always had an intimate relationship with people. For those who enjoy this medium, Kami is a treasure trove full of exquisite paper, hand-bound albums, journals, notebooks, unique gift cards, and fine Italian stationery sourced from around the world.

No matter how much we love our phones, social media, internet, and the various conveniences of modern life, we always get excited about books and paper for the varying texture, rustle, crispness and smell. The written word, whether our own or someone else's, expressed in personal or professional affairs, creates a sensory experience, especially when on beautiful papers.

We want to share with you the joy of fine paper and excellence in book binding - both to wholesalers who are seeking the rare and unique, and to our retail customers via our concept store Kami in Brunswick Street, Melbourne and from our online store.
