NOT FOR BEGINNERS

This course focuses on gorgeous spine work with multiple sections sewing at an intermediate level. This is a complex and very beautiful stitch that is sewn onto tapes and the book.

Whether you choose to keep your design traditional or interpret the technique with a more modern twist, you will learn a wealth of powerful and fun decorative possibilities to add to your binding repertoire.

This course will look at sewing across the spine onto tape support. This binding offer challenges and inspiration for students at every level. By the end of this course, you should be able to make decorative sewing a part of your binding expression and add visual drama to your one-of-a-kind books by incorporating the actual sewing of a book as part of its decoration. You'll also learn to incorporate the use of ribbons and leather tapes into your books.

Knowledge Required
NOT FOR BEGINNERS
- Good eye/hand coordination and good dexterity are necessary for this course as sharp knives are used in the cutting of board and paper.
- You will be shown correct procedure in the use of these tools but good co-ordination will assure accurate cutting and prevention of injury.
- Closed in shoes MUST be worn at all times. Some experience of Bookbinding preferred. If uncertain, please contact us to discuss

Isabelle offers the largest programme of bookbinding classes for all levels in Sydney. There are workshops covering every stage from beginner to those needing more expertise.

Her specialty is in Traditional Fine Binding, however, with her Arts degree she has a great interest in Artists Books and how that can be utilised as part of your visual language.

Isabelle completed her Fine Arts Degree (Drawing and Painting, Printmaking) at the Edinburgh College of Art, in Scotland. She went on to train as a Bookbinder in Florence, Italy. Isabelle taught the largest programme of bookbinding classes through her bindery the Owl and Lion, situated in Old Town Edinburgh, Scotland. She also travels to teach all over the UK and Europe.

Isabelle relocated to Sydney in 2017. The Owl & Lion is a fully equip, professional Bindery at:
