We've been very disappointed here in the past. Our children's work was lost, teacher not organised and generally badly run. Today, new manager, everything was ready to go on time and we received a date to pick up pottery. Our girls said it was great and the teachers are positive.

My daughter had a great time. We will definitely be back. We got the class as a gift and it was such a wonderful idea

Kai-Lee Dan Jan 2023

The teachers were friendly, welcoming and very knowledgeable. Both of my girls loved the pottery classes and would love to do them again.

Kira Millhouse Jan 2023

This is the perfect activity. We had an amazing time and felt so supportive! We loved every minute. Our teacher though recovering from surgery got hands on in instructing us how to do the pottery to helping us perfect our pieces. She encouraged us to be creative giving us free range on the options of pottery we could create! All materials were provided even aprons to avoid mess on our clothes. Pressing flowers into our cheese boards was definitely a highlight and we enjoyed being able to wander through the beautiful garden to find the perfect pieces. If you are looking for acute and private activity this is the place to go.

Carolyn Hunter Jul 2022

Would have been good to know I had to book session in two parts to come back and paint pottery item on another occasion and pay again

Teacher's response

Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review with us. The listing does not mention that we include any glazing as we don't do this. During the class we will offer that you can glaze the work at home, if this is done at home it is not food safe, or you can return to my class do glaze it in my studio. Glazing is always done after the firing on bisque pottery pieces and takes about a week to dry before we bisque fire. We can also glaze the pottery pieces without you having come back to do a class!

Thanks, Yvonne.

Enjoyed the class greatly, the format for the timing the poses, 2, 5 then 20 minutes for each was great to get a feel for the model. Great inspiration from other artists too. Love it, I will be back.

Knowledgable and friendly staffs. Great experience for all pottery lovers.
I would definitely do it again.

Yvonne was great and very helpful as it was our first print making experience. Oak Hill Gallery has so many art classes available. Will definitely be back.

Let me share my experience. I booked t-shirts making class, but different class was held without notification which I didn’t expected. When I mentioned about this to the staff, she said my kids (6 and 8 years old) seemed happy.Yes,luckily my kids were happy but my son said “Why I couldn’t make t-shirts?I was supposed to give the t-shirts to you as a surprise, mum” later at home. It was a kind of heartbreaking and feel sorry for my son as my little boy was ready for the class. Yes, my kids loved the different class eventually, but it would be better if you held the class the I booked.
That is my honest feedback, thanks.

Lovely place to spend a couple of hours in the scho holidays. Friendly and helpful teacher. My girls had a great time and produced some wonderful bowls and plaques. Worth the money. 4 people was enough of a group for the afternoon.

Justine Spokes Feb 2022

Lovely venue. I didn't expect lunch so that was an added bonus. Enough materials provided to experiment with Raku firing techniques. I'm looking forward to coming back.

Becky Strong Jan 2022

The teacher was obviously very experienced however the class was quite unstructured. There was one hour of glazing, two hours of waiting around for the firing process, about 30 minutes of getting the pottery out of the kiln (the best part) and then we were finished at 1:30pm. Lunch was not provided nor were refreshments. We felt it was overpriced for what it was and a bit misleading in the advertisement. It would have been good to have more examples of what the glazes would turn out like and more materials (brushes, containers, sponges, clothes, etc) to aid us in the process.

Teacher's response

Hi Becky, I will take on board your comments and ask Ray to provide your recommendations.
BTW tea, coffee, cake was offered and available all day. You must have missed this being offered.

We did provide lunch last year, but reduced the price asking people to bring their own making the workshop affordable. We feel the price now is fair considering you are provided with a variety of glazes and firing. We have people returning each month as they feel it is well priced.

I invite you to return next month for free to compensate your disappointment.

Kind regards
Yvonne

Great to see the Raku process. Would be good to have a handout with sequence of making, list of materials and places to buy products.

Teacher's response

Perfect, will organise this.

Steph Wallace Dec 2021

A wonderful way to access a Raku experience. Perfect for those without their own kiln.

Julie Bernardi Dec 2021

Had a great experience (as always) with Ray, it was great to watch some class members experimenting with naked raku!

I found this class good and I’m glad I did it, however I found the lighting of the model difficult to draw

This class absolutely exceeded my expectations! There were sets of poses in 5, 10 and 20 min. intervals that helps in warming up and getting into the zone. Cannot recommend this enough to those looking to sharpen up their drawing skills!

NOTE, I wouldn't recommend this class to complete beginners as there are no instructions and is purely drawing time (you may still enjoy it and will certainly see improvement in your drawing over subsequent sessions, but factor in that there are no instructions)

So excited about this class being a beginner, got charcoal, paper specially. In most beginner classes, to learn skills, nude models are in strategic poses, back views etc. Unsure how risque, sent emails asking, to decide on class, no replies, assumed ok, no shocks etc. Asked again in 'Chat' at start of class as felt it to be very risque, again no reply, it was complete full frontal, no warning. If known never of done class, girl or boy model. Left instantly. Very Disappointed. Deserves 1 Star but can't do reviews, photos under 3 stars. Want others to know so they can decide for themselves.

Teacher's response

I saw your email regarding our Life Drawing sessions.
I am sorry you were offended, but Life Drawing is drawing the naked body
Very rarely do we have a costumed model and if we do, we advertise it as such.
You mentioned that you messaged me. Unfortunately I did not see your messages on the screen while I was drawing. I noticed one that said you were leaving the session.
We have been doing life drawing for the past 10 years and the past two years via Zoom when Covid restrictions prevent us from meeting in person and never had a complaint, let alone in public.
I will email you when we have Olivia in costume again and perhaps you might like to join in then.

Model was engaging with their poses, but the host wasn’t very engaged… just giving time prompts, and then hurrying off at the end. Didn’t encourage the artists to have breaks or talk/socialise. Also, was under the impression this was a “learning” class but the host didn’t provide any tips at all.

Fabulous. Relaxed. Fun. Inspiring. Supportive. Teacher had mix of theory, showing her work, gathering and utilising the natural materials in varied ways with unexpected results.

Julie Bernardi May 2021

Had the most amazing day, my first ever experience raku firing and Ray was an absolute gem. Very keen to do this class again in the near future. Thanks again Ray.
