Traditional pickling via fermentation is a great way to preserve the harvest while at the same the time increasing the nutritional content of your food. They taste amazing and will give you a gastronomic experience you just can’t get with mass-produced, store-bought foods!

Learn how to make Sauerkraut and traditional Piccadilly in this two hour, hands-on workshop. You will get to take your pickles home at the end of the night as well as taste some already prepared.

Please note: This class requires at least five students to run. In the unlikely event that we don't get this number of students, we'll cancel the class and fully refund you and inform you via email, so please watch your email a few days prior to the class

Valerie has been a home cheesemaker and rampant foodie for 25 years and has a passion for fresh, organic, homemade foods. Valerie’s daughter Angie was born with chemical sensitivity in 1988 and this changed their lives forever. After struggling with food labelling laws, Valerie armed herself with the knowledge and skills needed to take back control of her family’s diet! Valerie became a well informed and conscious home cook and cheese connoisseur and delved into the science behind fermented foods. Valerie published her first book, Home Cheese Making in Australia, in 2016 and is currently working on her second book, Sugar Free Home Preserving.

Joanne has been fortunate to have travelled extensively around the world, gathering a wealth of knowledge and practical hands on experience in several fields. Using these skills, she has been able to invent a sustainable, energy efficient, life changing product, EasyOven. Joanne has created education programs in Design and Technology and the Sciences as well launching a new program in Australia, Unemployed to Self-Employed. All her work promotes employment, encourage Empowerment, Entrepreneurship and encourages a positive behavioral shift in the way our communities live their lives.  Joanne is a member of the following:

  • UN Global Alliance Clean Cookstoves – Partner
  • ISO TC285 – Clean Cook Stoves (responsible to develop the Australian position for the international standards development process.) Australian expert in this field.

Work-Shop is a creative concept that will broaden your horizons and help you unleash your inner awesome. We provide affordable short courses in life skills and alternative art. We’ve teamed up with Australia’s brightest creative minds to share their knowledge and help teach you a new skill. From 3D printing and stencil art through to music and gardening – life skills and personal development through to cooking doughnuts and mushroom foraging, we offer a broad range of fun and creative short courses to suit our time poor lives. We will inspire you to pick up that pen, paintbrush, hammer or sewing machine and flick the switch that will kickstart a whole new way of life.

Community values lie at the heart of our project. We collaborate with local artists and industry experts to teach classes and utilise local suppliers for any materials needed. We also provide a creative environment for emerging artists to produce and sell work, and meet like minded individuals. Work-Shop will be a space for everyone, with a rotating schedule of art shows, information nights on local issues and a whole range of events and community initiatives.

The teachers were extremely knowledgeable, helpful and funny! They made the atmosphere of the class comfortable and a a great place to learn and be social. The materials were beyond what I expected and the class provided so many resources to take home. Would definitely do another class at the location and hopefully with the same staff!

Practical hands on class, with good practical and experienced support. Class was well structured, particularly the use of tastings to highlight what we were hoping to achieve.
No hard and fast rules, and the relaxed presentation style made the information easy to take in.
Teachers were comfortable with the large group, and worked well as a team.

It may be a new hobby in my retirement.
