Are you interested in starting your sewing journey? Learn the fundamentals of using your overlocker or serger at this beginner-friendly class with Sydney Creative.

Bring along your own overlocker or serger or use one of ours if you don't have one yet.

Most people are daunted by the thought of threading an overlocker, if you're one of those people, you are not alone. We have developed this class to help you get the most out of your machine.

Class highlights

  • One on one tuition.
  • Learn about the threads and why we use two and three-quarter spools of thread on the overlocker.
  • Be guided through threading your machine until you are able to do it confidently.
  • Learn about the best tools to have close by when overlocking.
  • Learn how to stitch three different finishes on the overlocker (standard, narrow and rolled).
  • Understand how and when to adjust the tension.
  • Learn how to move the built-in cutting knife.
  • Hem edges to create a neat finish.

Throughout the session, our sewing specialist will share their knowledge, tips and tricks with you. You will be given fabric to practice on and will leave the class feeling confident in your new overlocking skills.

Our story began in 2018 in a small studio inside 107 Projects on Redfern St. With only one desk and one sewing machine, our first class was published and a lovely lady booked in. Our passion for the arts coupled with bringing people together, brought our vision of launching a creative hub to life.

In our modern world, everything moves quickly, we have adapted to a fast-paced environment and sometimes it can be hard to slow ourselves down. Sydney Creative is a place for people to relax, regroup and find a creative outlet that will hopefully aid in bringing people a sense of achievement, fulfilment and joy.

Our Classes bring people together, often in a circle around a table, whether it's for a sewing class, jewellery making or crafting, there's something special about being creative in a group together.
