Looking for delicious things to do at home? Or want to refresh your culinary repertoire? INDU and The Modern Desi have collaborated to create an exciting series of virtual cooking experiences!

Over a few hours on a Saturday afternoon, you will get the opportunity to informally learn to cook some of the INDU classics. You will also learn about the ingredients that are the heart of Sri Lankan and Indian cooking and you get to do it all from the comfort of your own kitchen.

On the menu:

  • Ammas Dal
  • Lemon and cashew rice
  • Eggplant Moju
  • Jackfruit Xacuti
  • Paratha Bread (pre-made and ready to cook)
  • Carrot cake (pre-made and ready to eat)

You will receive an ingredients box that includes everything you need to get cooking. Plus, at the end of this online cooking class, you can sit down to enjoy a mouth-watering Sr Lankan and Indian meal in your own home.

Please note: The ingredients boxes can be shipped within a 20km radius of the venue and all boxes will be shipped the day before the event.

By providing you with a feast for the senses, we enable a lasting bond with the villages we borrow from. INDU has partnered with ACFID accredited grassroots organisation, Palmera, to establish the Village to Village Program.

Our program will enable communities to build thriving village economies through building the infrastructure for local village enterprises.

V2V’s first project is to build a chicken coup in Northern Sri Lanka. This project will directly assist 20 widows from war-torn Sri Lanka who have been displaced by civil war by providing them employment to generate a meaningful income. The program provides job security, skills training, and vertical business opportunities such as crop farming.

The class was very well run and the ingredient pack that was sent out, delivered in person, was absolutely amazing. All we had to do was cook and enjoy the class with a glass of wine (the wine provided was great). A lot of fun and would highly recommend it for a great evening in lockdown and to learn to cook with some wonderful new flavours.

Excellent, intense but enjoyable. Apologies for the bad language after about 5 mins. I didn’t realise I was ‘unmuted’. I knocked over the container of tumeric all over our balcony. It went everywhere. ☹️ See photo. However, my wife cleaned it up with baking powder followed up with white vinegar and water. All curries were fantastic but my rice was lumpy. I tried to do it on my own but recommend to have 2 people there as it does get hairy when juggling everything. Otherwise, really enjoyed it and curries were great. Ron James
