Looking for the best things to do in Sydney for foodies? INDU and The Modern Desi have collaborated to create an exciting series of cooking experiences!

Over a few hours on a Saturday lunchtime, you will get the opportunity to informally learn to cook some of the INDU classics. This class is predominantly demonstration-based but you and others in your group will be invited into the kitchen to help prepare a range of different dishes. Throughout the class all beverages are included at no additional cost.

You will also learn about the ingredients that are the heart of Sri Lankan and Indian cooking and share a few stories and laughs with your fellow lunch companions.

Below are some examples of dishes you may cook on the day:

  • Ammas Daal
  • Lemon and cashew rice
  • Eggplant Moju
  • Chicken Xacuti
  • Jackfruit Xacuti
  • Beetroot Raita

Once the cooking is finished, you will enjoy a feast over lunch and a few glasses of wine, as you connect with those around you at the table. The best part? No cooking experience is needed and anyone can come along to learn how to cook these popular dishes.

At the end of this cooking class, you will take home a recipe booklet and a range of notes from the class.

By providing you with a feast for the senses, we enable a lasting bond with the villages we borrow from. INDU has partnered with ACFID accredited grassroots organisation, Palmera, to establish the Village to Village Program.

Our program will enable communities to build thriving village economies through building the infrastructure for local village enterprises.

V2V’s first project is to build a chicken coup in Northern Sri Lanka. This project will directly assist 20 widows from war-torn Sri Lanka who have been displaced by civil war by providing them employment to generate a meaningful income. The program provides job security, skills training, and vertical business opportunities such as crop farming.

Bhavna was so bubbly, welcoming and created a really warm and comfortable learning environment for the class. Her wisdom is endless and she was constantly sharing tips not just about cooking with spices but also using them in everyday life through Ayurveda.
INDU is the perfect venue, it feels like you've stepped into another world away from the busy city. The smell of spices fills the restaurant which is decorated beautifully.
All food, drinks and ingredients were of exceptional quality.
The 3 hours in the kitchen followed by a full banquet feast and endless drinks was well worth the money- highly recommend
We learnt many techniques that are applicable to countless dishes. We left with newfound confidence to get back into the kitchen and start cooking delicious Indian and Sri Lankan dishes!

Bhavna was a wonder teacher. She was engaging and the food was amazing!

Indu is a perfect venue for a cooking class - the open Kitchen is perfect for the class.

The notes provided were great, and make it more likely to cook the dishes myself.

Fantastic class at a favourite restaurant, Indu. B was a great teacher, very knowledgeable and super enthusiastic. What a fantastic way to spend a Saturday! Bhavna was an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and fun teacher! Aaron from INDU was the perfect host, keeping our glasses topped up and organising the day.
INDU is a lovely venue for dinner, and also really works for the class. The little alcove we were assigned initially to chat and later to eat has a lovely ambience:
We learned lots about basic rules of storing and cooking spices - whole and ground as well as some basics on creating a base for a dish and how it can be interchanged with different spices and proteins. A vey interactive class with lots of laughs!
