Sustainable Soap Making Class

Make beautiful soaps that are good for your skin and our earth!

3 hours Class size 2 to 4

label $200 (or 4 payments of $50 Afterpay)

Do you want to learn a fun and creative hobby that helps you live more sustainably? Interested in learning about the ingredients that you use on your skin? Perhaps you're looking for unique gift ideas for friends and family that they can use every day?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, this soap making class at our cosy studio in Dee Why might be for you!

At this hands-on workshop, learn how to make beautiful cold process soaps from scratch using organic and ethically sourced ingredients. These soaps are super gentle and nourishing for the skin and can be used for both the face and body. You'll also learn about sustainable and ethical ingredients, how they affect your skin and what impact they have on our planet.

What you'll learn:

  • How to make soap using the traditional cold process method.
  • How to design your own beautiful soaps.
  • About the organic and ethically sourced ingredients that go into your soap.
  • About soap making tools, how to store and cure cold process soaps, and safety guidelines such as how to use lye safely.
  • The difference between store-bought soaps and handmade soaps. You are welcome to bring your face or body washes to get to know more about what you're using daily and the environmental effects they may be causing.

Play with natural essential oils and natural raw ingredients to make your soap creations. A variety of colours, clays, flowers and decorations will be available so you can let your creativity flow.

If you've had bad experiences with soap in the past then this class is what you need! Discover for yourself how soft and nourishing natural, sustainable soaps can feel on your skin compared to big brand soaps.

Soap making is often called an endless journey and takes years to learn and study. Even after seven years of soap making, your teacher is still learning, and would love to share what they've learnt so far to help you on your own journey!

Please note: If you are making these soaps for gifting, remember to book ahead of time because it takes up to four weeks for soaps to cure and be ready for use.

Blue Earth Organics is a handmade soap studio that studies cold-process soap. We sell handmade soaps and open handmade soap making classes to teach you how to make soaps from home.

At Blue Earth Organics, we use organic and ethically sourced ingredients, and here’s why.

Firstly, the quality. Organically grown ingredients contain about 30 to 40 per cent more nutrition than conventionally grown ones.

Secondly, sustainability. Use of pesticides and chemical sprays kill the microorganisms and insects that keep our soil healthy and balanced. Eventually, the soil and the crops that do survive are depleted of nutrients. Organic farming methods protect the microorganisms that keep our soil healthy and fertile.

Thirdly, fair trading. There are still many supply issues in developing countries where people work in very poor conditions with a lack of working rights, minimum wages not being kept, and child labour exploitation. Fair traded products help solve this problem globally by ensuring fair prices are paid to the producers in developing countries.

We create a fun and creative class and love to connect to students by sharing handcraft together.

Nina was absolutely the best! She is not only so great at her practical skills, but the knowledge she possesses about soap making processes and history, and more importantly, her willingness to educate us about natural soap making was just the best! 3 hours flew by under her fantastic care, guiding me through all the steps and encouraging me to be creative while designing my soap. She has a great collection of essential oils, colours, tools. Would definitely recommend this class to everyone!

I attended Nina's Sustainable Soap Making Class with my two sisters and we all really loved it and couldn't recommend it enough! The class was well planned, enjoyable and Nina has put a lot of thought into the content. Before attending the class, we requested the palm oil free soap base, and Nina was very accommodating and provided this. Nina also provided vegan snacks, and lovely goody bags to take away :-) The class is informative and gives you the knowledge to make your own soap in the future, as Nina explains the process and the component parts. Nina also gives you the option of making different types of soap, which is great to get an understanding of what you prefer. The class also gave us a great insight into the soap industry and an understanding of common soap ingredients. Our class went over by an hour but we didn't notice as we were having so much fun selecting colours and textures for our soap! We're excited to try making our own soaps at home, thanks to Nina's awesome class :-)

What an amazing and memorable experience! I had booked a private soap making session with Nina for my partner’s birthday on the 24th of June, 2021 and it was definitely one for the books! The session was well structured and organised, she explained everything in detail through an engaging power point, answered all our questions in a calm and gentle manner, and made sure we felt comfortable and confident throughout the entire lesson. She went above and beyond to make our experience truly unforgettable. She was patient, attentive and giving with her time. We ended up going over our session time by an hour, but we didn’t realise until we left. Nina did not once rush us. You can really tell she is passionate about what she does, and by the quality of her products and how knowledgeable she is, she is clearly good at what she does as well. It was also fantastic knowing everything she uses, is thoughtful, eco-friendly and sustainable. If you're looking for a creative outlet, or have an itch for an activity that’s fun and creative, I would definitely recommend booking a session with Nina. Thank you again Nina for the incredible experience (my girlfriend loved it).

Nina was brilliant and the class was super enjoyable - we can't wait to see our soap!

Our soap making class was terrific today.
Nina was so clear and explained all of the processes well.
I was really impressed that the class ran with just my sister and I as the date was perfect.
Materials are clear to go and use on our own and we can’t wait to play some more.
Our soaps won’t come home to us for a few weeks but we have a great little sample bag to try at home while we wait.
Excellent day.
