What you'll do
Join Grandmother Christine at Botanista for an afternoon of tea leaf reading, fun and divination! Bring your friends and family and your favourite teacup and learn the symbology and basics of tea leaf reading.
Before there were tea bags, tea was more than just a quick dunk of the Tetleys and off you went - drinking tea was a ritual that brought people together. Groups would gather together to gossip, drink tea and divine their futures in the leaves left in the bottom of their cups. Symbols came to have common meanings, and the teacup itself could tell you when to expect things to happen!
Grandmother Christine will draw you into the history and rituals behind tea leaf reading, share how you can read different leaves, both herbal and traditional black tea leaves, and help you to read the symbols in your own tea leaves.
We invite you to bring your own teacup and/or teapot that holds meaning for you- perhaps something passed down - and we'll serve your tea in your own meaningful wares. Don't have anything to bring? Don't worry, we have beautiful china teacups here for you to choose from.
You'll enjoy a pot of tea and cupcake, a tea leaf reading demonstration from Grandmother Christine, and practice reading your own leaves under Christine's guidance. You will also receive a signed copy of Christine's book 'Forecasting Your Future With Tea Leaves' which retails at $15!

Botanista is a creative space in Port Noarlunga that melds workshops, South Australia's only Terrarium Bar and a beautiful shopfront filled with plants, terrariums and a dash of magic.
Owner of Botanista, Charlene Maney, opened Botanista in 2018 with a passion for plants, making gardening fun and bringing the community together.
Charlene has been an educator for over 20 years. Her experiences include teaching and overseeing the Indonesian language department in Canberra for the Department of Defence; and overseeing teaching staff as well as teaching several courses herself at the Worker's Education Association of South Australia.
Previous to opening Botanista, Charlene had been running her award-winning online store, Fleurieu Gifts and teaching botanical workshops since 2014. Many of the workshops held at Botanista have been running continuously since the early days of Fleurieu Gifts in 2014.
