The Art of Rag Rugging

Get eco-creative and learn how to turn used fabrics into a rug or wallhanging masterpiece

2 hours Class size 10 to 20     label $65 ($20 per class surcharge applies for private classes)

In this Perth rag rug and sip class, you’ll learn how to create a contemporary rag rug masterpiece, using traditional rag rugging techniques.

Rag rugs are made using odd scraps of fabric and are a great thrifty home decor idea. This class is perfect for beginners, as you will be guided by a friendly teacher and surrounded by likeminded creatives! You're welcome to BYO favourite beverages to sip as you get creative.

At the end of this relaxing class, you’ll walk away with a gorgeous mini-rug wall hanging and the know-how to create a full-sized rug for your floor – or more wall hangings for friends and family!

Knowledge required
No prior experience necessary, all abilities are welcome.
What you'll get
A gorgeous handcrafted wall hanging and the know-how to create a full-size rag rug.
What to bring
Please bring three to four items of unwanted clothing – most fabrics will work. You’ll re-use these fabrics for your rug. If you don’t have any, you can source them free or at a low cost, from friends, family, a local thrift shop or put a call out on your local Buy Nothing Facebook group.

If you have plenty to choose from, choose the colours you love or colours that work well together, for example:
  • Whites, yellows, greens, blues
  • Whites, yellows, oranges, reds
  • Whites, pinks, purples
  • Mixed pastels
  • Mixed brights
  • Whites, greys, blacks

Complimentary colours contrast well – these are opposites on the colour wheel, like orange and blue, or red and green.

Sophie is lovely and an excellent teacher. I found rag Rugging very soothing and a great craft to continue with. A fun way to use up scraps of fabric and make something fabulous. Definitely worth doing this class. Especially with an orchestra practising right next door .
