What you'll do
In this all-day glass workshop, your teacher Pauline will guide you through how to flamework your own molten glass beads!
This flameworking workshop is held in The Old Auction House's glass studio in Kyneton, Macedon Ranges, perfect for a day out where you will make up to 15 of your own glass beads and enjoy a beautiful organic lunch.
You will learn the tools and materials required as well as the type of glass and embellishments that you can use to make lampwork glass beads on a torch in this exciting glass bead making class for beginners.
You will start by melting glass rods and manipulating the glass over a burner to make glass beads then you will decorate the surface of your coloured glass beads with glass dots and drizzles to create patterns of different colours. You can also adorn your beads using glass coloured frits.
Once you have your colours sorted you'll learn how to shape them into round, bicone, flat or square bead shapes and be taught how to use moulds to help get the perfect shape! Pauline will explain how beads are annealed and you will be able to either take your beads home or collect them at a later date depending on your choice, or your teacher can post them out to you.
A delicious lunch will be provided created from all local organic produce and able to cater for any dietary requirements you may have. You will also be provided with a divine afternoon treat and tea and coffee facilities are available throughout the day.
The workshop costs include all materials required and all tools will be provided in the studio for use by participants.

Pauline started her journey into glass in the late 70's before she secured a coveted 3 year traineeship in the Jam Factory Hot Shop in SA in the 80's. From there she has grown her practice in both glass blowing and flamework working at multiple studios, being the Hot Shop Supervisor at Melbourne Meat Market for more than 10 years and being a lecturer at RMIT.
Pauline is not only an extremely talented glass artist, as seen by her work being included in the Corning Museum of Glass, but she is also an incredible teacher. With years of experience introducing complete novices into the world of glass, she will ensure that you are able to not only learn the art of glass but come away with pieces you are proud of at the end of your course!

The Old Auction House is an independently run multi-use arts precinct located in the regional Victorian town of Kyneton, just an hour north of Melbourne. Housed in a historic weatherboard building, which served as the much loved Ferris auction rooms for over 80 years, the precinct opened in April 2017 and is home to a variety of artistic spaces.
The Old Auction House is currently home to a retail shop specialising in quality Australian handmade items, four working artist studios including local glass artists Leadlight By Ettore, a teaching space for visiting artists, and two gallery spaces with rotating exhibitions.
The Old Auction House is open 7 days and the entire space has been renovated to be accessible for those with prams, wheelchairs, and mobility issues.
The Old Auction House has a focus on community engagement in the arts. Each studio runs a variety of classes with different artists and materials throughout the year.
