I’m a trained art teacher with many years of classroom experience, and for the past 11 years I’ve been teaching from the Bowral Art Gallery Studios (BDAS). While I’ve taught all ages — from preschool through to HSC students — my passion later in life has been working with adults in the community, including complete beginners and those returning to art after retirement.
My own art practice is varied and experimental. I work with acrylic paint on canvas, ink on yupo, lino-cut printmaking, and sketching, and I have a particular love for the tactility and expressive possibilities of charcoal. That hands-on understanding of materials flows directly into my teaching.
I run weekly art classes that usually span 8–10 weeks each term, as well as weekend workshops throughout the year. My classes are supportive, practical, and skill-building, with a strong focus on helping students understand materials and techniques in a clear, achievable way.
Nothing gives me more joy than hearing someone arrive saying, “I can’t even draw a stick figure, ” and then, just a few weeks later, seeing their confidence grow as they realise what they’re capable of creating. Helping people achieve their artistic ambitions — often far beyond what they thought possible — is the most rewarding part of my work.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to deepen your skills, you’ll find my classes encouraging, friendly, and focused on real progress.
