This course offers a wonderful introduction to the practical and traditional craft of upholstery. Experience the delight and satisfaction that creating something by hand brings to your life.

Learn new skills and have some fun during this two-day, bring-your-own-chair upholstery workshop. You will be taught the techniques required to restore a chair of your own during the course and acquire the confidence to tackle new projects on your own.

There will be the opportunity to fix wobbles and other minor repairs on chair frames as well as tuition and guidance on various timber finishes. However please be aware that as the workshop time is limited if timber work is required there will be less time to spend on the upholstery aspect of the restoration.

Tuition is tailored to each individual project, however demonstrations will be given to the group for every technique covered during class: in this way, you will be introduced to a broader set of skills, above and beyond the techniques needed to complete your own project.

When choosing your chair, choose something that has one or two flat planes - a seat and a back – as curves and arms are more complex and take longer to achieve.

Please contact me with an image of your chair (from a few different angles) or if you would like to discuss your chair project.

Knowledge Required
Perfect for beginners.
What you'll get
Basic materials for completing your project and use of the necessary tools are supplied.
If your chair needs new stuffings (foams or loose fibre fill), this can be purchased in class.
What to bring
The chair that you wish to work on and the top fabric of your choice. Please also bring an old blanket to work on, a note book, pencil and some old gardening gloves. Please wear closed shoes.

Had such a great first day with a group of lovely people. Fiona was terrific with explaining all aspects of stripping down a chair and carefully demonstrated different methods for different chairs. She was also careful to explain risks and care management to avoid injury. Can’t wait for tomorrow when we start putting it all together

Fiona was really knowledgeable and very helpful and looked after us all very well. I learnt a better way to remove chair racks and progressed very quickly. The venue was pretty cold and bleak but adequate with plenty of parking. Tea and coffee were provided too

Fiona is very knowledgeable and presents well with the wide range of clients in her class. Each project is different as are abilities of the students. She flowed easily around each but involved the rest of the class in various steps, whether they would be required in your project or not. She gave direction carefully and demonstrated the process before the student continued the process but was available to check in when required. Class moved smoothly and the break was appreciated midway. Can't wait to finish next week - and start new project.

I thoroughly enjoyed this class and would recommend it. Fiona our teacher is friendly, knowledgeable, patient and has found the right balance between teaching (by giving you demonstrations, handy tips and doing some of the hard work with you) and letting you drive your project at your own pace (allowing you tom learn by trial and error as well). I am looking forward to the second part of the workshop.

After purchasing 2 chairs on Ebay that were showing as black and white Zebra print in the photo however, when they arrived they were dark brown very old and not what I was expecting. I purchased black and white fabric to recover them and did my research via Google and ClassBento were offering a Two Day Upholstery Course. You could do two consecutive Saturday's or two consecutive days, we chose the later. We had to have 3+ people for the individual class so I rang some friends and they agreed to participate. We found the Tempe Jet's Sports Club and immediately on meeting Fiona our teacher we felt that we had come to the right place. Fiona's teaching technique was informative and easy to understand for us novice upholsterer's. Two days in a row was tiring (I am not kidding but I want to be honest) as there were hundreds of staples to remove from my particular chair as it was a very old chair. The process of stripping back your chair and removing all the old foam and strapping and then making your chair come to life is an exhilarating experience and at every step Fiona was extremely helpful and assisted everyone at some stage during the 2 days.
We thoroughly enjoyed the entire process and as I have done one chair now I have the second chair to attack however, this time I will know exactly what to do and for that I say a huge 'Thank-you Fiona'.

I've been looking into learning upholstery and Fiona's class completely surpassed my expectations.

A generous, fun and knowledgable teacher, Fiona helps you take a project from start to finish in just two days. The class covers all the major skills required to grasp the fundamentals of upholstery and gives you the confidence to carry on practising the skills that you've learnt on your next project.

The class was great value for money, run in a convenient location and most of the tools and materials that you'll need are available in class. All you need to bring is a scruffy chair to transform and your choice of fabric. I was really pleased with the final product and my cat loves her new stylishly upholstered throne.
