3 hours Class size 1 to 5     label $45 - $60 ($45 for Concession, $60 for Adult)

Looking for unique Sydney activities? Join us in the Inner West and create your own typewriter art project, guided by Barbara Campbell.

This fun class has been designed for students who have completed our Typewriter Art Workshop and want to continue exploring the capabilities of the classic, manual typewriter.

Throughout the class, you'll be using one of the eight manual typewriters in our lab, ranging in age from 1936 to 1980.

Over three hours, you will focus on making your typewriter art project. You will be given the opportunity to develop your personal approach to this unique art form as you create using your own style and self-expression.

You'll be spending your class time testing, sampling and experimenting, taking on individual and group feedback (if you want it) and completing a work or a series of works to take home!

Just after I finished my art school degree in 1981, my mother signed me up for a typing course so I could get a "real job". Little did she know then that I would continue to be an artist and find a way to make art with the typewriter. Now I have a collection of portable and desk machines from 1936 to 1980 when they were superseded by electric models and shortly after, by personal computers. You too can experience the satisfying rhythms of the typewriter by making your own piece of art in my Newtown studio with one of these mechanical beauties. I've taught in University Art schools in Australia, Hong Kong, London and USA to students at all levels of experience.
