Join Urth Clay Studio in a community-based workshop to learn about the therapeutic effects of pottery.
Owner Zein Akkad moved to Australia from Syria in 2014 and not long after she discovered the practice of pottery and the therapeutic effects clay can have.
The process of pottery reinforced her empowerment and confidence and helped her restore her mental health through mindfulness.

Teacher was helpful but we found the process rushed as we were beginners & needed to have more practice in techniques. The venue was pleasant & a variety of materials were available but we weren't shown what all the tools could do. I felt that the class was expensive for what we did & what we will take home. I would nor recommend it to anyone who asks.

I had a lovely time learning pottery wheel throwing. Our teacher, Ebony was excellent at talking us through the steps.
It's quite a tricky thing to learn and takes a bit of time, but we all managed to make a few bowls, cups, plates etc.
Very proud of the outcome!
I would love to do this again.

Such a lovely way to de stress on a Friday evening. Yvonne the teacher was so lovely and helpful. It was a fantastic and fun experience just being able to play around with the clay to make your own version of a speckled cup.

I enjoyed how the teacher gave us a rundown of how we will handle the clay and use the wheel (15 minutes). She gave us a step by step tutorial before letting us go and try ourselves. I enjoyed this hands off experience and was appreciative that we were able to try as many times as we liked/needed. We could ask for assistance at any time, which the teacher glady did. Overall, it qas a very fun experience and I loved how we were able to challenge ourselves since we were not handheld through the process.

I received the perfect gift in a ClassBento gift voucher- I attended a relaxing, fun beginners evening pottery class at Urth Clay. I went on my own and was a bit nervous about what to expect, but our lovely teacher immediately put us all at ease, shared her expertise and calmly walked around encouraging and praising our amateur efforts. She brought out a creative side most of us didn’t know we had !I think we all left feeling glad we had stepped out of our comfort zones and done something special for ourselves! Can’t wait to collect my glazed and fired “masterpiece” This is the year to try something new - join a ClassBento class ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed that the focus was not on perfection, but rather to immerse yourself in the process, with help along the way.
Ebony was helpful and provided clear instructions. I have signed up for an eight week course on the basis of the experience.
The space is light and welcoming.

I was lucky enough to be gifted a voucher to use for the Mindful Pottery Wheel Class recently. Our friendly teacher gave us a quick lesson on how to throw the clay and showed us how to create a small dish, she was close by if we had any questions or needed help. Urth Studio is in a great location, with great cafes close by if you need a cuppa or a bite to eat before or after the class.

My daughter wanted to do this class with me as a “mother-daughter” experience. She is creative, me not so much. The studio was easy to find and had a small carpark with free parking. Josie the instructor was warm and welcoming, and gave the most informative demonstration at the beginning to help us get started. Josie was there the whole time, assisting in techniques and reassuring everyone that it was ok if the clay throwing didn’t work out, just try again. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone! And we are thinking we will go back and try one of the hand-building classes…

Loved this first-time experience of using a potters wheel! So much that I will be back!
Leah was great, although the instructions would have been good as WE followed along - so much to remember otherwise.

The venue was really cool and easy to find with good parking. Our teacher was amazing, so creative, kind, helpful and really allowed us to leave the outside world and focus on creating something with our hands. I went by myself while I was a bit nervous everyone was very welcoming and actually felt great to achieve something on my own.
Nails do make it hard but you’ll get there!

My favourite pottery class I’ve done so far! The instructor was brilliant. She delivered the class so well. There wasn’t an overload of instructions and was easy to follow along. She was there to demonstrate, support and encourage you along the way. The time provided was plenty to experiment with your clay and take your time to fall in love with the process. Absolutely love that you got to hand build and paint your piece. It was such a mindful experience and I left feeling very relaxed and zen. I highly recommend this class! It’s my favourite one so far.

Earth Clay studios is in a really easy to get to location, with plenty of off street parking. The venue was inviting and teacher Zen and her assistant Jess we're lovely. Zen really explained the process and we were able to make something and feel proud of our efforts.

The class set up was nice & spread out. Instructions were simple to follow & broad enough that you could interpret it how you wanted. I recommend either have ing a quick look at pinch pot styles you like before going in, or just winging it if you’re like me & have a general idea of what you would like.
Easy to do solo, also can be done in any size group. Super relaxing & dopamine filled!

My daughter and I had the best time creating our specked cups. Zen was inspiring and took the time to demonstrate best ways to make our cups. At the same time allowing and encouraging us to make it our own. We will definitely be returning for future classes. Thanks so much for a wonderful inspirational class Zen.

I had a wonderful experience. Our teacher was very friendly, personable and gave a very clear demonstration as well as support along the way when we needed it. It’s quite the skill to master the wheel but with practice even a beginner like myself was able to produce beautiful pieces. It has definitely left me wanting to do it again.

Definitely something I’ll be doing again! Dragged my partner along and he enjoyed it as well even though it’s not the type of thing he would usually be into! The teacher was amazing at explaining everything for people like us who have never done it before, didn’t feel rushed at all and although my anxiety piped up at the beginning being in a new environment, it went away pretty quickly once we started the class. 10/10 I have already been recommending it to people!

Amazing class and so much fun! the venue and teacher were fantastic, Leah was very knowledgeable, helpful and made you feel at ease especially as a beginner.
Class size is small so you get plenty of guidance. Would love to do this again or one of the other class offered.

Such a lovely space in Burnside! It's this gorgeous building with high ceilings and wooden beams, and outside is this beautiful creek and massive old fig trees, you feel like getting creative as soon as you arrive. Tamara our instructor was lovely. We thought two and a half hours would be a lot of time to make three little bowls but it was actually just enough. You start just sculpting and chatting away and it's so relaxing! The time flies. You can get as creative as you like with the bowls!
My friend and I loved the class and we had a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to picking up my little bowls and I want to do another class now!

Just had the best night ever with my son at the mindful pottery wheel class. Gorgeous studio, and great tutor. We were able to get stuck in straight away, made some duds but got more confident as it went along. Such a fun experience. Could have spent the whole night there just throwing pots. I am inspired. Thanks for a wonderful evening.

Right from the start, walking up to the venue was an experience in itself. What a beautiful place! Our teacher was very clear on her instructions and everything had a very laid back, relaxing feel. Working with clay was quite therapeutic and not as hard as we had first thought. Definitely great value for money.

Really happy with what we made, the biggest challenge is just getting past making your first one because you second guess yourself so much the first time I think, after I saw how lovely the first piece looked I felt so at ease even though I know pretty poor haha

Fantastic demonstrations by the teacher- every student was given the chance to see each step close up, easy to understand, and plenty of support and encouragement through the class.

We had a great experience at Mindful Pottery Wheel Class. My husband and I went as a date and found it a relaxed and fun style of teaching. My husband enjoyed it more than he expected and loved using his hands to create something both functional and beautiful. Although I had more trouble picking up the skill I loved the experience all the same!

Had a wonderful time in a fun and supportive environment. We were given the freedom to create what we wanted, with the support and knowledge about how to do it in a way that means things wouldn’t fall apart! The space was clean and well presented. My only concern is that it isn’t very physically accessible due to numerous sets of stairs into and within the venue, and the width of some doorways. The tools and materials were clean, high quality and otherwise easy to access. The teacher was very friendly and helpful. I’d definitely recommend attending a class here.

Our teacher Zen was absolutely lovely! She provided the class with a quick demonstration and then we were able to start ourselves. She came to each of us a few times during the class to see if we needed any help or guidance and at the same time also gave us our own creative room. The space was very nice, big and open with lots of colourful paintings around the room. The materials provided were great and enabled us to go mad creating anything we wanted. Overall the experience was amazing! I definitely want to come back and make something else. I only wish we had more time, like another hour to finish everything. We've already recommened the class to some of our friends. Thank you Zen for a great lesson.
